What the government really thinks about legislation.
    #14544144 - 06/01/11 02:43 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Just so you guys know this is what uk government thinks.....

E-mail: public.enquiries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk  Website: www.homeoffice.gov.uk

05 October 2010
Our reference: T16049/10

Dear Mr ======

Thank you for your e-mail of 09 September about the Government’s consultation on the development of the 2010 drug strategy.

I would like to renew our thanks for your interest in the drug strategy as well as for sharing your friend’s personal experience of issues around drug misuse as a response to the consultation.

I have read with interest ‘My Story’ part of your email which I have shared with other government department colleagues working on the consultation responses and the development of the drug strategy.

The consultation document set out the Government’s strategic vision on drug misuse. The aim of this targeted consultation was not to review the current legislative framework, but to seek the views of drugs sector and partners in the early stages of the development of the drug strategy, around its four key themes. We want to disrupt drug supply, strengthen enforcement and promote drug treatment with a focus on enabling people to become free of addiction, to recover fully and contribute to society and to prevent drug taking.

The international dimension of drug misuse issues and its legislative control is a global problem which poses an ongoing threat to people in many countries worldwide. The course taken will remain that of prohibition, as set out in the United Nations Conventions on drugs, and the UK will continue to support and meet its obligations under the Conventions largely through the UK’s Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. We have no plans to decriminalise drug use. Our approach shall continue to be based on the principles of shared responsibility and proportionality and takes account of all those affected, including dependent drug users, in full respect of fundamental freedoms and human rights.

The points you have raised have been noted.

Yours sincerely,

Cyrille Marcel
Drug Strategy Unit

They keep referring to using drugs as drug MISUSE, not defining the difference between a normal drug user, and a drug abuser. The question you should be asking is why is alcohol legal? Because it is their drug, and they don't want it banned. Discrimination at every level.

If you want to read 'my story', the letter that was sent to the Uk government its on this thread...

That is absolutely ridiculous.  But ey thats what it is

What do you even say to that? Like send a letter back saying dumbass? You know.. I mentioned the other night to this chick i just met... I mentioned Ectasy. . I said cigs are pretty bad. I told her that Ectasy really isnt that bad if its pure. Everyone at the table laughed at me. And said cigs are much better. Its that kind of stupidity that baffled me.

It really pissed me off today, today top officials ( top ranking MP's, police officers, heath officials) went to the prime minister today to say exactly what I said in October, the drug war is NOT working! Its on sky news, some of the comments like 'drugs ruin peoples lives', 'drugs ruin family life', 'drugs are bad for your heath'. Yes drugs CAN ruin lives, BUT so can alcohol, gambling and prostitution, ALL LEGAL! Yes drugs CAN ruin family life, BUT so can alcohol, gambling and prostitution. Yes drugs are bad for your health, IF you abuse them. Why is smoking legal its PROVEN to cause cancer. What about obese people? I could pick out every fat person in a crowd and fine them for being fat and harming their health, it would be impossible to pick out every drug user in a crowd, why? Beacuse we are normal people. A responsible drug user is no different to a responsible alcohol user or a smoker. I use drugs responsibly and respect, yet I would be under arrest under the 'MISUSE' of drugs act!? EH? Someone who is an alcoholic DOES misuse a drug, he is NOT a criminal? I have one toke of a joint, CRIMINAL! Nuts.

We should all unite and sue for discrimination.
