ROCKFORD — A 40-year-old woman has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2010 drug-related death of a 14-year-old boy.
In addition to murder, Susan Moore was found guilty Thursday of drug-induced homicide, delivery of a controlled substance to a minor and delivery of a controlled substance in connection with the death of a 14-year old boy, Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced Friday.
About 4 p.m. on April 3, 2010, Rockford police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of 39th Avenue where paramedics were tending to an unresponsive Tanner E. “Tan-Skyn” Groth, who was lying on the living room floor.
Moore was found guilty of giving Tanner an unknown amount of morphine.
Tanner did not live at the residence, but at the time Rockford police Deputy Chief Greg Lindmark said Tanner had spent a night at the residence with his girlfriend, who is a friend of Moore’s daughter.
Witnesses said Tanner began acting strangely before becoming pale with mucous coming out of his mouth.
Moore was informed of Tanner’s condition, but advised others in the house to leave him alone and to let him sleep. After Tanner did not awake, Moore carried him to the bathroom and placed him in the shower, but he remained unresponsive.
Tanner died two days later at a hospital from an apparent overdose of morphine, which had been prescribed to Moore for back pain, the state’s attorney office said.
Moore was arrested at her residence on initial charges of endangering the life and health of a child, reckless conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The charges were upgraded to murder when Groth died.
The death may not have been intentional, but the charge was homicide because of the reasonable expectation of death from the person’s actions, Bruscato said.
First-degree-murder is a Class M Felony with a penalty range of 20 to 60 years in prison. Drug-induced homicide is a Class X Felony with a penalty range of six to 30 years in prison.

I wonder if she actually gave it to him or if he stole it. I have a feeling she gave it to him though since instead of calling 911 she shoved him in the shower

Well idk. I could see it going both ways but if she knew he jacked one and didn't want to go to hospital (would he get charged with stealing pills?) She may have just been trying to avoid that. Ill wait to hear more about this b4 I comment more though.
