Geordie Beerkit / glucose light malt cooking question
    #14543314 - 05/31/11 11:04 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

i am currently cooking jars of LC using the Geordie Beerkit Enhancer, which is 50% Glucose and 50% light Malt extract combined.

For each 100ml I am using 4g of the GBE (the stuff) and adding it to boiling water and stirring for 5 minutes before filtering through coffee filters into clean jars.

These then get loaded into the PC.

Now,my question is, that I have been told to PC these jars for no longer than 20 minutes - to avoid caramalizing/burning up the nutrients- yet it takes 5 minutes to get the cooker up to full pressure; so does that count toward the cooking time or do I simply just start the clock from the moment the pressure has built?

So far I have been timing from the moment pressure has built, my LC's look a honey colour, I'm not sure - is this normal?

11 of these jars have been inoculated with Mex-A MS, so time will tell if this has worked. Still, I am preparing more batches of LC over the next couple of days and would like to get this right.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You start timing it when the weight starts to jiggle or at 15 psi if you have a guage.LME always looks a golden color clear color when it comes out of the PC,the color can vary according to how long it was PC'd
