I have been a lurker for a while now and this is my first attempt at grain. I used cakes in the past with much luck but am trying new things. I followed the "popcorn tek" very well. However I can actually see water in my jars with my popcorn after I sterilized them. Should I start over? can I dry it out some how? can I throw some whole organic brown rice in there and pc again.
I dont mind starting over but I fear I will have the same results....

popcorn is very hard to get the moisture content down. It tends to get too wet most of the time. I would suggest getting some wbs from your local store. Heck i use the kroger 3 dollar bag and its fine. then follow a good wbs tek which you can find in the link in my sig. You should be better off. I too had not so great with brf at first, skipped to wbs and did fine. Now i can do brf with out the issues i had in the past.

isnt there a bunch of stuff I have to take out of the WBS? like isnt all that is left is basically cracked corn? would it be better to just do cracked corn or is all corn hard to get moisture right?

You dont need to take anything out of WBS besides floaters when u soak. Most people dont like sun flower seed and pick them out .... but most of them get removed as floaters anyway. I hear finch seed is good. It has no SFS amd is mostly millet and the good stuff. I use penningtons WBS and it seems to work fine.

Most people do take out the floaters and SFS, but I never did, and it was fine...especially for azures; they love all the WBS mix!
If you don't want to deal with all that, and the mess WBS makes, get whole rye or wheat berries. I think they are the best for what little that counts

If you are talking about an actual Whole Foods store, you can have the retail manager or some other managerial-type person order you a bag of bulk whole rye or wheat. You might also try an animal feed store. Just be sure you don't get rye grass seed.
or get WBS... they both work great. They just have slightly different preparation methods because of varying densities and moisture capacity. The end result, however, is the same... al dente.
You can try again with new corn, but I won't/can't recommend it because I've heard enough poor feedback on it, and I have never used it myself.

My experience was that Popcorn was easy to get the moisture right, though was inferior to Rye as far as performance. I still have yet to make WBS work as a bulk spawn, moisture content has always been off. Only way I could use the stuff is to grind it PF Tek style.
Look around some more. Once I found Rye, I didn't look back. Moisture and performance have been perfect every time.

hand-crafted!
I gotta re-do one where the water doesn't drip down and make it all sloppy-like
though! I like it too!
