To Pin or Knot to Pin, that is the question.

First of all, let me express my gratitude to all the great posters on here that make this possible.
So, I have a minitub going which was moved into fruiting conditions, (FAE, 8 hours indirect sun, and 68-72 degree temps) and its been a brilliant white since a moved it into fruiting conditions (5/18). However, I have yet to receive any pins.

It's a horrible picture, but you get the gist, should I be concerned?
Thanks.
P.S. If I don't respond right away I'm watching the game, BEAT THE HEAT!

I'm not familiar with a "minitub" (= mini mono-tub?), and I'm afraid that picture is quite useless to me as well. But, in response to your query about pinning, here are the triggers for pinning listed in order of importance: complete colonization, a reduction in CO2 through fresh air exchange, evaporation of water from mycelium, and strong, high-spectrum light. If your mycelium isn't producing any pins, then something is (more likely multiple things) are amiss. What is the humidity in your minitub? How often do you mist? How often does it get FAE?

yes, it's just a smaller monotub. Could it be that the substrate wasn't completely colonized? I guess I'll just have to wait it out. I'm not misting, the monotub is supposed to be, "set it, and forget it."

If thats a pic of the top looking in, you need to remove the lid and fan!!! it's too wet and you probably have the polly packed to tight. Keep the poly very loose, just enough to fit in the holes.

Agreed with above, an open lid pic would be nice. Don't worry too much about the loss of humidity, i think yours is fine either way. What it looks like to me is A high humidity, and B low FAE. The combination results in TONS of white fuzz, and very few pins.(The myc still thinks it's in colonize mode and has nowhere to go but up)
REMEMBER: Evaporation of water from the cake/casing is also a trigger. Fanning will lower your humidity enough for this to happen without getting tragically low, and will also allow your sub to get the FAE it needs.

removed the tight poly fill, made it nice and loose, and put an oscillating fan in the room. I'll keep you posted.

how long have you had full colonisation for?
>moved it into fruiting conditions (5/18) so it's been almost 3 weeks since then - but was it fully colonized at that stage?

MORE GE/FAE seriously. You should have adults now.

Yeah, I know I'm going to start fanning twice a day. I thought I was at full colonization, but I guess maybe it could have been premature. I mean everything looks right, right? I don't know what I'm missing. Thanks for all the help. I was at work so I didn't get back right away. It smells wonderful, just like it should. It's like if I loaded a bullet in a gun, pulled the trigger and nothing happened, I don't get it. How long before I call this thing a rap? Anyone ever give up on a colony? Thanks again.

Since you really only upped the fae about 5 days ago, I'd say you're only 5 days into fruiting. You will no doubt see something withing the next 11 days at a minimum.

Good. That's what it needs.

You're welcome. And NO. Do not lose faith, that's the pretty much the worst thing you could do right now. Patience pays in this hobby. I'd say call it a wrap after your first 3 or 4 flushes.

Agreed. Just keep on truckin. I would keep it up for another month at the least. When it happens it should be great, lots of consolidation time. You'll get monsters, and lots of em. Cubes are just like that.
