this applies to other cuisines where they are known to eat their food extremely spicy.

I'm totally convinced that when you order at a thai restaraunt and they ask you how spicy you want it on a 1-10 scale, they have a completely different scale for people that aren't thai, because I never order less than an 8 and the food is rarely as spicy as I expect it to be. some day when I feel daring, I'm going to ask them to make it like they do in thailand and sweat my balls off. my dad tells me about this thai girl he knew that was eating some homemade larb and asked if he could try have a bite since he loves larb...

...and it was

anyone else suspect this? I think they consider us pussies, which we probably are.

where do you live?  it's entirely true in the midwest (i used to live in columbus, oh), but there are a quite a good handful of thai places here in the PNW where if you ask for your food spicy, they give it to ya mothafuckin' spicy.

haha ya seriously. gotta be careful, you can definitely get it TOO hot.

I feel like the PNW is more cultured than other areas in the U.S, we get a lot of authentic shiet round these parts

next time you make your way up to SF try something extra spicy at Basil Thai on Folsom, they treat you like you know what you're talking about heheh.

I don't think there's any question of authenticity in the places I go, and I sure as hell don't live in the midwest, in southern california we have a huge asian population and a lot of adventurous eaters, not to mention a whole shitload of people who grew up on and love spicy food, so I dunno...

I know at least around here it isn't uncommon for local pubs and the like to have 'special wing contests' where they make them ridiculously fucking hot and you have to eat like 3 in 10min and if you make it you win a cash prize. That's my goal!

3 wings or three orders? if it's three wings I can manage that with ease no matter how hot they are

sriracha is great, also try the huy fong chile garlic paste if you're ever wanting a higher flavor-to-spice ratio, it's pretty bomb...better than the chile paste they serve at most asian restaurants.

rofl, no, i said thai food in the midwest was never spicy, here in the PNW (in Portland) where I live now you can get some very spicy thai... like so spicy you start profusely sweating lol... we have an exceptionally large asian population as well.

If you want some real heat, go to an authentic Indian restaurant.  The one by me even has a curry hot sauce to add to your dishes.  I can take a shot of sriracha without flinching, but this stuff had my eyes tearing down my face.  And it had more flavor than any hotsauce I've ever had in my life.

I've never had a firey asshole though.  I'm not sure why.  I guess it's because girls don't poop?

the same thing happens to me at indian restaraunts...and indian and thai are my two favorite types of food so I've been to plenty of different restaraunts around here. I'm really gonna have to start asking them to make it like they'd make it for themselves at home. I'm sick of ordering a 10 and getting what I consider like a 6

Definitely true, I had some Indian foreign exchange student friends who used to say you don't know what it means to taste until you've eaten Indian.  The things they would cook were mind alteringly spicy.  It takes a little work to find great Indian cuisine though imo.  I know a couple places in Seattle I'd highly recommend.

Have your server accuse the chef of not being able to make it spicier, and say you won't come back.

My food always comes to me with tiny little red chili's chopped up on top. Blows my head off every time.

Really?  I've only been to 3 Indian restaurants, because they're the only ones in the area.  But I'm usually the only white person in the building.  I guess if you live in a huge city, the restaurant gets a much more diverse customer base.  But around here, only the Indians go to Indian restaurants, so they make their foods different.  Just a guess.  But I've never been disappointed by the heat in the Indian restaurants here.
