Hey guys,
Since this is my first post on the forum I will introduce myself. Name's UberPea8675 and I'm new to cultivating mushrooms, but have experience with cannabis.
Let me catch you up on my grow thus far:
I bought 10 CCs of Costa Rica Spores online Made some brown rice cakes Inoculated 9 jars via 4 tiny holes in the top They have been sitting sealed in my closet
These pictures are on the shy side of 2 weeks since inoculation. I feel like they are spreading slower than I would've expected, but again this is my first time.
Any advice is much appreciated from you guys, thanks in advance.

it looks like you used fine verm and that could be the reason. also those jars look like full pints another reason for slow growth but everything looks healthy so just be patient good luck bro!

Thanks for being my first reply! And a very reassuring one at that.
That verm was the only verm I could find :-\ is thicker verm more desirable?
Also, they are 1/2 pint jars, just a little on the tall side.

The foil is not allowing for GE. If u have a verm layer for a contam barrier remove the foil. If not u can use Tyvek, but it needs to have GE

Please excuse my noobness, what is GE?
There is a layer of verm at the top, but I was still worried about contams so I left the aluminum foil on

1) use half pint wide mouth not half pint regular. 2) Use a more coarse verm. Medium is good. 3) Don't pack them tightly. As loose as you can possibly fill them. 4) Make sure its not sealed! has to have some means of GE. If you wanna stick with the foil lid, go foil only and poke a small hole in it.
I mean all in all they look great. Nice and white and healthy, but the rhizomorphs don't look as whispy at the edges as mine usually do, but then again I never worked with that strain so it could just be that. Best of luck UberPea.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
1. Couldn't ever find those wide mouth ones :-\ online? 2. Also couldn't find more coarse verm at any department store. Plant stores perhaps? 3. Is it okay if there are air gaps in the cake? I was worried about the integrity of the cake for when i birth them. 4. Did not know this at all... thank you!

You need to let them sit for a full week after the entire jar is white. This is called the "consolidation period".
Also I hope you ordered from a reputable store, that myc looks really funny, they might have shafted you with some random type of mushroom instead of cubes. It could lots of other things though, like the fine verm, lack of GE, strange camera or jar etc. Still looks strange though.

I got them from spore works, they got really great reviews.
It's probably the other issues that you mentioned.
Also, sorry for the quality of pictures, my camera has been broken. Next pictures will be better thanks for you patience and help.

Start over and do not pack down the substrate. Fine grade vermiculite with finely ground brf will become solid and dense after steaming as the BRF expands.
If there is an Andersons near you look for red bag of vermiculite in the gardening section.

Don't throw it out until its moldy or too dry, it might just take a long time.

I mean the one jar is almost completely covered, and being that it is such a dense cake, wouldn't you agree that it's probably pretty hardy?
