Shaggy Mane Choice Edible

Hello, I just recently happened to find a patch of Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus) mushrooms growing down the street from my house in a lawn. I picked a couple and identified them online, and I'm sure they are the right thing. I was wondering if these are worth going back and harvesting? I left about 8 mature ones there, and there were a handful of them growing still. Is it worth it to go back and pick them? Im not very experienced with cooking mushrooms and I want to know what you guys think of them. Thanks

Been wanting to try those for a while now but I've never found any. Supposedly the best edible of the inkies. You should post up some pics.

Yeah, Ive been reading that also. just hoping to find someones opinion on this site I have some pictures, but until I go pick the rest, you have to bear with me as they were on my cell phone. Kinda rough condition, these were solely for identification purposes.

Most of the time I grab a onion a green pepper some chicken breast and some soft tacos and make a chicken wrap. You could just butter and fry

Those in the picture are too old to eat. Maybe you can save the tops, but it's not a good idea. Pick only ones that didn't start dissolving yet, are completely white, and the gills don't have a reddish tint.

yes, thank you for the warning! I threw those out after I cut them open to look at the gills, to confirm the species, they looked all nasty and what not anyways. Do you know why they get soggy at the bottom and black? spores?

Yep, that's the way coprinoids spread their spores, I really can't spell what the process is called, so I won't try to. With some species like C. comatus it's more pronounced than others. Anyway in a day or two, all that would be left are stalks and a lot of black goo around them.
