Looks like an interesting mushroom, relatively slow colonization on sterilized grain in a g1, but otherwise looks widely adaptable to substrate and method. The culinary quality looks high, and fruiting temps are tropical, so either limited to a seasonal production or indoors. Perhaps commercially viable by shitake standards.

Interesting, I am not familiar with this mushroom. Looks like I've got some reading to do....

Descripción: The edible mushroom Oudemansiella canarii (Jungh.) Höhn is common in the Brazilian territory, being found in different biomas, where they colonize several plant species. In this study, the O. canarii cultivation was evaluated in polypropilene bags containing sugar-cane bagasse (200 g) or eucalyptus sawdust (200 g) supplemented with wheat bran (50 g). The composts were sterilized at 121ºC for 1 hour, after cooling they were inoculated with 3 g of spawn and then remained incubated at 25ºC until the basidiomata primordia formation. The mushrooms, harvested after the pilei opening, presented varied sizes reaching 9 cm of diameter and 10 cm of height. The fresh mushrooms presented mild taste and soft consistency. When kept at 4ºC, they maintained good appearance and good consistency for 7 days. In a period of 60 days, the largest basidiomata production was obtained in the compost with sugar-cane bagasse, showing greater productivity (4.47% ± 1.34), biological efficiency (55.66% ± 20.41) and compost consumption (38.78% ± 4.59) averages. Wilcoxon's non-parametric statistical analysis used to compare the biomass production in the two composts, showed significant differences at 5% significance level.

No luck for me so far. I'm just growing contamination. The plates smell really bad, so hopefully it is only bacteria holding back the mycelium. Next week, I'm going to pour some antibacterial agar plates. I'll make an antibacterial agar "sandwich" which will hopefully purify the culture.

I don't know what the official term for it, but what you do is this. Pour two plates of antibacterial agar. I have some ready-made, but you can make your own if you can locate some gentamicin sulphate. Put a bit the culture to be purified in the center of one of the plates. Cut the agar circle from the other plate, and place it right on top of the first plate containing the culture.
Now, the agar will hold back bacterial growth, and eventually, mycelium should appear on the surface of the top layer of sandwich. This has completely grown through the layer of agar, something which bacterial contamination can't do.
I've never tried this before, but this seems like a perfect opportunity. Previously, I've managed to isolate good bits of mycelium from contaminated plates. But the O. canarii plates I've grown are too far gone.

Another good tactic is to pour your plates and if you get bacteria cook up some more agar and, once it cools down but is still molten pour it over the existing plate covering the mycelium and bacteria. Then the mycelium with outrun the bacteria to the surface and you can get a small clean sample. I've had very good luck with this approach.
