okay -
here is a picture of what I just birthed out. I forgot to case it, and within 24 hours, I got this. It is laying on tinfoil on bleached perlite. The brown liquid is because it is grown on beer brewing grains, specifically crystal malt, and it was soaked for 24 hours per protocol.
Now here is my question - this is the second cake I have birthed and had this reaction. The first one was a beautiful white, and then this deep, glossy black began to expand from beneath. I tossed that one. This one, now, is fuzzy again - not the ropy mycelium that I typically see when searching for pictures of cubensis being birthed.
I had left the jars for 1 week after PC'ing them, to see if I wasn't cooking them long enough. No growth whatsoever. I inoculated them, they grew right where they were suppposed to, but I am getting the same reaction I got last time! no green mold, got the spores from Sporeworks - what is going on here?

that is what I was thinking - the mycelium in the jar looked great, white and clean and pretty. As soon as it hit the chamber after soaking, this is what it looked like 8 hours later. how do I prevent cobweb mold?

well, this is the second time I have gotten the exact same results from the same spore source. does anybody have any suggestions? I have no problem growing oyster mushrooms or shiitake - my yard is covered in them. where can I go for a better source of spores?

I go with Sporeworks or Ralphsters but ALL the Sponsors on this site are worth giving a shot, each having different things to offer. I dont know who you got spores from b4, but a shroomery sponsor is truly your best bet. Lots of good deals and quality products.
Click the bottom of the sponsor banner at top of page that reads: Please Support our Sponsors, for a full sponsor list.

first time, I did direct inoculation. second time, I prepped LC in sterile, just to see if I did a poor job on technique. exact same results.

bleach everything. a mold growing so fast doesn't deserve to live.

Yea thats crazy looking! You can see black tips on the very most outside of the cake. Maybe you should switch to BRF, WBS, RYE, or Popcorn? I would probably say its got something to do with your substrate rather than the vendor.
