storing problems

I put dried mushrooms in a zip loc baggie and after a while I noticed they started to soften and pick up this light brownish colour. That can't be good right?
Is it better if I store them in a paper bag?

I had some wrapped in plastic wrap and I put it in a dry, dark, room temperature space for like 1 - 2 weeks and they looked exactly the same when I ate them. In fact, they felt a bit stronger than the shrooms I took the week before which was the same kind and amount.

I've read it's better to put them in a sealed jar with some pouches of silica gel in the bottom. The silica gel takes out the last of the moisture.
I would put a layer of paper between the shrooms and the silica gel in the jar just to be on the safe side (silica gel is toxic if eaten).

I just started to make little pouches out of tyvek, or coffee filter and fill with damp rid, zip-tie closed, and store in a jar. Works so far...

If they are truly cracker dry the storing them in zip-loc bags in the fridge will be fine

This is also my experience.
There is probably a lot difference in the quality of zip lock bags, but there are many brands/no-name zip lock bags that aren't airtight, so over time crackerdry shrooms will absorb moisture from the air around them and become a bit soft again.
For that reason, and maybe due to the bad quality of the zip lock bags I have, I also prefer jars, also with a bit of silica gel at the bottom.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try the silica baggies.
