Sclerotia advice
    #14540094 - 05/31/11 10:36 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

My friend is growing 4 pint tubs of sclerotiae on rye grain (with coffee).. Hes never done this before.

The jars are starting to colonise - and are being incubated as tubs in a tub full of water with an aquarium heater etat 26C (i figure that given inefficiency of heating, the grain will be 23C ish). The top parts of the grain (above the water line) looks pretty good - starting to fur up nicely. Below the waterline isnt colonising as quickly. Also, the grain below the waterline looks a little dry.

What am i doing wrong? I have put the temp of the waterbath down, but should i just colonise at room temp (18C at present)??

Thanks!!

And get them out of that bacteria pit and put them in a cupboard somewhere(above the fridge is great)64 is on the low side but the'll still colonize

I put sterilising fluid in the water to stop bacterial growth. Would they still be better out of the tub?

Butt-head, Is your room temp comparable to mine? 18C - 64F?

Yes,take them out warm water is a perfect bacteria breeding ground, whatever you put in the water to sterilize will only last so long before bacteria wins

yes still better out of the tub...
look I colonize at room temperature even in the winter time when its about -25C outside, now its almost mid summer the warmth is here, today it's about 23C here in CANADA !!!
you should have no problems. trust me
