Malt LC question

New to using malt/dextrose LC so was wondering about something. If a film develops on top, is it guaranteed contam, or could it be sediment buildup or something? They're PC'd for 20 @ 15psi, then filtered through coffee filter, and PC'd for 30 @ 15 psi. Film is white, doesn't look like any similar contam afaik.
TIA

I've had mycelium mats on top of my LCs before that were just fine.
Does it look like the jar on the right?

Also, you can leave out the dextrose & just use (E)LME + water.
I use 1g (E)LME per 600mL of water. Bring water to a boil & dump in (E)LME & stir until disolved Pour in jars & tighten lids fully PC @ 15 for 30 Minutes.
You have burnt you LCs by PCing them for 50+ minutes...

Similar to the right, but not quite as thick yet as it's only been a week. Was checking for growth when I noticed it. Does burning the LC ruin it?

IDK. Never burnt it, it won't be as good that's for sure.
Did you stir it when you checked on it?
I'd say grab a test jar & inoculate it.

no it doesn't.
Are you familiar w/ GLCs?
I do those but use 1 cc to inoculate an ELME LC jar, that way I know it's good...
here's a pic of one.

"film" on LC is most likely a contam.

but there's a difference between "film" & a mycelium mat that's overcolonized on the surface. I've seen them tons of times & not one was contamed, but, like I said, those were myc mats.

Are you sure about the 1g LME or is it a typo? Because that is a very low percentage.

I 100% sure about 1 g (E)LME to 600mL of water. If you bring the water to a boil & stir in the (E)LME for 3 minutes of boiling water you're left w/ around 520mL of water.
