Very interesting. Sometimes it does make sense... I'm a little depressed lately. It seems like dreaming too much could be the cause, of course I don't know what I dream about, but it seems like a good explanation. Every morning I wake up exactly like they said - tired, groggy, unable to focus or become motivated.

My life isn't that bad... I'm normally pretty happy actually. So I think it's probably more for people who have chronic depression.

Thanks MM, that article seriously helped me understand some problems I've been having. In that I needed to share it.  I hope all read it.

I don't think they have anything very significant there. I think they've misidentified the correlation- its not the sleep that is increasing the depression, but the "negative introspection" that they consider the source of dreaming. Of course dwelling on the negative makes a person feel bad.

But that doesn't mean people should not think about whats wrong with their life, denial is just as unhelpful as over-worrying.

Well, whatever works for some may not be for others I guess.

Hm.... the theory of it sounds good.... but the fact is I'm a complete insomniac, therefore I don't think this one applies to me.

Rumination can be stopped by challenging negative thoughts with therapy/self help books. Other strategies for relieving depression include increasing pleasant activities, socialising, exercise, relaxing - meditating or whatever, problem solving, cutting off or distancing from oppressive relationships, etc. Or antidepressants relieve symptoms by correcting the chemical imbalance.

Computer games don't affect kids. I mean if Pacman affected our generation as kids, we'd all be running around in a darkened room, munching pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.
