I would be wary about jars like these if they are that cheap. They are possibly just for show and not intended for repeated canning.
That's probably true but i'd consider kilner jars to be no better in that regard, low quality jars marketed to hipsters at horendous prices. I can buy 24 ball quart jars, import them from America and after postage and duty they still work out cheaper than the cheapest kilner jars in the UK
Ive ordered some of the home bargins jars so I will post my first impressions.

I used to use 1ltr pickled onion / beetroot jars at about 79p plus I got to eat all the contents. I've also used fresh soup plastic containers after eating the soup. Mason jars are good and much cheaper these days than they used to be but there are always cheaper alternatives.

So true. Shipping from the UK-EU is often as expensive as USA-EU. I bet couriers in the UK are fucking millionares.
You guys got ampulla though, that is fucking awesome for jars and pp5s. They have these small pp5s that are just perfect for pour agar and they are transparant, almost just as good as a petri. I've been using them exclusively for at least 2-3 months now. Their quart pp5s aren't comfortable to work with but they can be if you get used to them well. The jars are cheap enough to make you not wanna bother with the quart pp5s though.
I've saved a shitload of money with ampulla, even though their shipping costs are through the roof.

blackout was 100% correct, these jars are useless for canning or anything that involves heat. You can preheat them with hot water from the tap and they will still explode when you pour boiling water in them.

14pounds for 6 jars isn't really cheap though, especially half pints. Have you ever browsed through Ampulla? I buy quarts for 80c a pop from them.

Yeah, I used to like them too. I was using tyvek in the past so the ring and lid was pretty awesome for holding down sheets of tyvek. The ampulla jars are too cheap to ignore though for me. I use SFDs nowadays anyway, I would have to drill holes is both styles of jars, better off with the cheaper ones.
I actually have ~45 pint ball jars which I imported from the US. Wasn't cheap, I can tell ya that.

They have pp5 containers which are perfect for agar as well. Been using their stuff for a while now, pretty happy with them. Shipping is expensive for overseas but still worth buying from them if I make a decent order. I even use their mister, pretty good too.

Don't buy jars for agar. These are the ones I use.
http://www.ampulla.co.uk/Clear-Plastic-Food-Pots-&-Tubs/130ml-Clear-Square-Plastic-Food-Pot-With-103mm-TE-Lid-/p-206-3531/
It has a round bottom 80mm wide, which is 10mm smaller than the regular petri dishes we use. The lid is square which is a bit annoying to open the first couple of times but after that they will soften up a bit. I also use a bigger pp5 from them but I only use that for isolation since I can throw in 4 cultures in the same plate. The big ones are easier to contam, you need to get used to them a bit to keep them clean but the ones I linked are perfect for agar.
I have a pour tek in my sig that shows how you should go about using them, make sure to read it before you throw them in the PC. The lids will warp if you don't use toilet paper to seperate them.
Edit:
Thanks for the offer by the way, I'm all set for the time being.
2nd edit:
It seems that they haven't re-listed their quart jars again so far anyway. I hope they start selling those again, they are awesome.

Yeah, they're pretty good. They stack within each other so you can fit a bunch in a PC. When I pour in the small ones, I do 40 plates per batch. I can fit more in the PC if I wanted to but 40 is fine for now.
What jars did you buy? the 700ml? They were selling quarts a couple months ago

No just half pint jam jars that's the biggest I have aside from my chemistry stuff 1000ml pyrex beakers but bit big for Pf and can't really shake for grains unless I put a shit tonne of tin foil and held it tight as there's no lids as theyre beakers

Should definitely try to find some quart jars for grains. Pints work but it basically doubles the amount of washing, space taken, inoculations, jars needed for tubs etc. Quart is the best size for grains, not too big that colonization takes too long but big enough for a home grower.
