hi dueced, cant enlarge ur pic atm, but myne looks different. its blue ontop, white underneath. and dont see the need to seperate it into different layers.

take a look at the pics, made some test jars, but dont have a culture to inoculate them with yet. the lids just have 2 1/2 inch holes 1 has an injection port the other has a piece of the tyvek siliconed over it. so there is no problem undoing lids like you suggested? im pretty sure it is breathable or allows acertin amount of gas exchange and is also hydrophobic, which is perfect for mycology.

well it stayed fine after 1 pressure cook for 90 + mins at 15psi

think it should be a fine material to use, but will test several jars first before making them all like this.

does any1 know anywhere to get parafilm at a reasonable price... (cheap as possible) if any1 uses an alternative could they please post what brand or type they use. tempted to try clingfilm as parafilm is so expensive, but i dont want to ruin experiments just because i skimped on the parafilm.

also is the green parafilm for florists any good for sealing dishes? says, its waterproof and stretchable, but guess it might not be breathable. dam cheap though.

Micropore tape worked for me on some test plates. But parafilm is the one!

I know its robbery, they normally overcharge for anything lab related. TBH the dispenser is only needed if you do a fuck load of plates, a clean pair of scissors is all you really need. Id suggest using the 100 mm wide roll.

100mm really? I use that at the moment and was considering getting 50mm next time as i currently cut it in half before use.

You could build your own dispenser if your set on it. Spare blades for the ones they sell cost £5 so you could use it to build one

100 mm all the way mate. I use the red for standard dishes, one piece will go around twice. I use one of the reds for a 'work' plate and two for a 'good'. A red piece will also do slants nicely. Green for small dishes and half a red for booze proofing labels check left v right slant.

no i didnt want the dispenser, im quite happy with scissors or just tearing with my hands. i was just noting how ridiculous the price of it was.

nice slants there badman  :whacker:

think i might try the 100mm  cutting it width wise appeals to me. peace

Ive not used parafilm for the same reason.cost.
Started out using cellotape (i shit you not) the last inch of the dish was micropore tape(again relative expence)

Now use only cling film. Cut ~ 2" off the end of roll. Extreemly easy to use.
It may dry out, after a time, but is usefull and cheap for short term storage and propagation of a strain.

As long as a £1 a time roll of 12inch clingfilm, cut into 2 inch sections?
As stated. I have never used parafilm.Perhaps, were more professionaly minded, i might try it,but at the moment i would prefer to use my income on petri's, and other essentials, rather than the parafilm to wrap them in.
