When you say break easily, do you mean when putting holes in or just general wear and tear?
If you mean when putting holes in, i just use a soldering iron to poke four holes in each as they do crack with punch pliers or a drill.
If you mean general wear and tear then no - i've never broken one and even tho they're cheap, i used to reuse them all the time.
Sometimes you might find that the lid has lifted very slightly under the foil when taking it out of the pressure cooker but i just used to press it back down and that was that.
I just think some new lads can't see the wood for the trees with all this - there is no supply problem in the UK if you just look around, especially these cheap pound shops. I've even made huge cakes from the tall, round cliplock storage containers and not had any problems despite everyone saying they would stall - you just need more holes and a loooooong needle you can pick up on eBay to penetrate the verm layer.
As for mason jars, what's wrong with the 1 litre beetroot / pickled onion jars in B&M, often on offer for 59p?? Hell my last pressure cooker, i even managed to squeeze a half gallon pickled onion jar in full of rye. Plus i got to eat the onions!

You can also buy it in Wilkos but I don't think you will get it cheaper than that link lovelaughlibs supplied.
I just use spawn bags now - for colonisation and as a fruiting chamber, save all the hassle.

I posted the link libs asked the question. its £4.50 from wilkos plus £4 delivery so much more expensive unless you pick it up in store so im happy to pay the extra 95p or whatever in the link i posted as its free postage versus the effort of driving to the nearest wilkos hoping its in stock using fuel to drive there and back then pay for parking then fanny around the shop queuing blah blah.

Oh sorry old boy I got mixed up with who posted the link - nevertheless I was saying it was a good bit of info for whoever wanted it. I'm well aware of what lme is used for thanks, having used it extensively myself, however I was referring to some previous posts (about two up from my last I think) where we were talking about jars - plastic, glass, cheap and cheerful alternatives in the UK etc. Hence my comment about spawn bags for both colonising and fruiting.

Not having much luck finding screwtop pp5s for bottle tek. Will empty glass pasta sauce jars be good enough? If so how much should I loosen the lid?

Do you mean you're going to grow straight out of the container? I did this once using 1 litre pickled onion jars. I bought squares of felt fabric from the Works for £1, put four holes in the lid and stuck a piece of felt over with silicone. To fruit i used a hair net which i pumped up and down to get fresh air in.
Sorry if this isn't what you mean - not sure what the bottle tek is...

Id recommend oats super easy to prep no boiling them sitting nannying them like other grains. Also widely available and much cheaper than rye. Ive never seen rye locally so never really looked.
