Yeah I know what you mean - I have a lot of weird and wonderful glass from all round the world for my homebrewing but for mushrooms I like a minimum of fuss. I have that pressure cooker previously mentioned and use a 5 litre airtight clip lock container - large lunch box size for my grains. I can see the disadvantage - if it gets infected I've lost the lot but it's not happened yet and I think it's easier to get a good sterile inoculation when I only use the syringe twice - once to suck up my lc and once to put it in the box.

Guys the Heinz fridge packs (reduced salt) are on clearance around the country in ASDA for 50p each, great plastic containers to use as discussed earlier

Yeah liquid cultures aren't great but they're easy, fast, cheap and again, a minimum of fuss. The last one I had I must have used 30 odd times at least with a couple of infections - I'm inoculation in the open air tho

When I use glass I use 1 litre pickled onion jars from Home Bargain for about the same price they're just a little big bigger than those gherkin ones I think. I use slightly smaller ones for my lcs but the one thing I make sure of is that they all have the same size lids so that I can swap and change to my heart's content. Lidl do tortilla dips on offer sometimes at 39p which look like the same lids again - thought I might try some agar with them. It's good having a bunch of lids with injector ports and filters siliconed which I can fit to jars for agar, grains or liquid cultures. Talking of silicone, there is a black mechanics silicone you can buy on ebay which needs a gun to use - same size as the silicone you use for windows/sinks etc. It's as cheap as the red silicone you get in small tubes, is resistant to the same high temperature and has about ten times more content.

Believe it or not this is the condensed version! The original got crazy big, but it's hard to keep all the info in one place, best thing to do is post a question as there are a few of us that have been keeping this thread ticking over for years.
Shout out to Base Icks required, he's put HOURS into this thread, everyone should rate him for his efforts.
PS- keep the bitching and fighting out this thread tommyg, think that is the first time in either incarnation of this thread that anyone has sworn at another member, really not needed. Have some class.

Has anyone tried a hbwr extraction? I have some madagascars and am thinking about trying the extraction with colemans fuel then 'everclear' or a suitable alternative. Don't fancy paying £50 for bacardi 151 - is there a cheaper alternative? I've seen the same method used with just water instead of the everclear ... and seen one with water and garlic. If I could get an alternative to everclear would it be worth adding garlic too? I tried these seeds grinded up in capsules and had the worst nausea of my life - absolutely terrible experience - so any help from those who've tried an extraction with uk materials would be greatly appreciated!

Just got a 10l brick of coir in Home Bargain for 49p - sure I've seen it mentioned on this thread before but I could never find it myself. Says coir compost - this is just what we're after right? Thought I'd check before stocking up on a few ...

I've been really strugling to find these cheap in Europe (englishman living in France) but I just got off the phone with Aloha Medicinals for these
90 filters for 25$, 37$ shipped to France (so I'm guessing more or less the same for the UK) so £38 or so! I couldn't find synthetic filter disks for any less than £100 for 100!
