anyone know where to get decent hardwood fuel pellets in the UK for lipa's pasterization tek?
I bought these from certainly wood.https://www.certainlywood.co.uk/wood-pellets
Ive just knocked up a couple of bags, rang them wondering what types of wood are in them, turns out its all softwood.
Shame I got the moisture content sorted as well, may as well spawn to em see what happens but i dont hold out much hope of sucess.
Frac.

Fractal, You can get hardwood sawdust and chips from ebay. They sell it as some sort of smoking wood. Just search for oak sawdust and its cheap as well. HoPe it helps!

Probably that is the best idea but sometimes they mix the woods or the sawdust but at least they'd be happy to give it away.

Hey all, not been on this thread in a while!
Anyway, check ebay for parafilm, 4" by the meter: - worked for me!
Also I am likely going to bring in a shed load of Uncorn bags, type 10T - the small-ish, gusseted spawn bags from the US, let me know if anyone wants 100 or so, price will be competitive.

Hey UK peeps anyone got a solution for polyfil??? Doesn't exist here??? Need it for monotub...
Also tyvek or something to use as filter in grain inoculation... Was thinking about getting one of those cheap jump suit type things that I THINK is made of tyvek but not sure???

Any soft toy is filled with polyfil, I just got one from the pound shop. FWIW, I got a tyvek suit off ebay but have since abandoned it in favour of polyfil in jar lids too as it's much easier and seems to have better GE.

I think cotton is more expensive than polyfil and also less hygenic so it'd make sense to stuff soft toys with polyfil. I've only checked one and I'm on a 100% success rate with finding polyfil....worst case I suppose you'd be a quid down?

Cotton is not a good option, you want something synthetic.

Well a quid and a contam jar or something
And yeh Hacker I know - that's why I was being wary of other material Upto a day ago I thought polyfil was just the US version of cotton or something
So with polyfil doing a grain jar you just kind of pull it through hole at top of jar and pack around...?

Well you wouldn't use it if it was cotton, so you wouldn't lose a jar due to buying the wrong stuff :P
I don't know what pack around means, but you roll it into a 'tube', fold it in half and roll it again then fold again then stick through lid (I like to stick it through from underneath as it means the side that'll be in contact when you shake is neater)

I'm not sure what I meant by "pack" either really... thanks for the info - do you just make one hole that serves for inoculation and GE? If so how big d'ya make it?

I don't really inoculate with spores any more so most of my lids have the one hole, it's about 7-8mm in a pint (Dolmio) jar. When inoculating with spores I'd drill a smaller hole and use silicone to seal it from both sides.
