Millet is superb but doing no prep always ends in clumps that can't be shaken out in jars for me.

Clumps are okay, they still colonise perfectly fine and you can break them up at spawn with your hands

Do you think this would make the perfect cupboard for getting 9 shoeboxes on the go? My initial plan is to run 3 shoeboxes per row and a total of 3 rows. On the bottom, I'll run a Heater and a dehumidifier if possible.
Right now, there is no electrical socket in the cupboard. What I could do is run all power sources from outside the cupboard, but that will make keeping the climate under control with the doors wide open. Instead, my friend who's an electrician has offered to fit a couple plugs within the cupboard so I can keep everything absolutely concealed within the concrete cupboard.

Let me know what you think?

Can you not run an extension under the door? That’s what I do. Sockets are a good idea though if you’re mate can sort it. Why the dehumidifier though? The humidity is contained within the shoeboxes so not sure why you would need one. If anything the walk in cupboard I grow in isn’t humid enough. It sits at a fairly standard 50%-55%.

Looking for HEPA filter and a matching blower from UK / Europe.
Size about 60cm x 120cm would be best.
Anyone know of a good matching combo? Or just a link to the seller would also work, I can work out the math.

for the fan you will need to do some maths and visit the hydro store, squirrel cage fans are much harder to come by in europe, you will be using an inline duct fan, likely a 250mm version of some sort for a filter of that size
think edmunter has a hood build thread where he uses a systemair RVK as fan with success, was 200 or 250mm
good luck

What blow torch (or other device) are people using to sterilise scalpels etc? Been through a few blow torches now, they all end up going 'weak' after a while, looking to pick up something more professional grade.

Use one of these clip on torches, they last much longer and are far superior to small butane torches.

That's what I've just acquired, just double check the butane canister before you buy to make sure it's compatible with the head. There's screw tops, bayonets and ones for refilling lighters.

Thanks, have ordered one of these.
And thanks to the advice on the clip on ones, I will probably pick one up aswell as I could do to burn some weeds in my lawn if nothing else.

"Wide Mouth 324ml Glass Preserve Pots" on amazon for £1.27 each

I can fit 2 layers of 4 jars in my 6L aluminium Prestige PC

and I used 60g bird seed millet with 30g water in each jar, could of put in a little bit more tbh maybe 80g and 35g (started to think a smaller ratio of water might be wise)

seems to have gone well and super easy... will see how they grow

Not a lot of people, it’s not needed really. Just coir and Verm is more than sufficient.

Just read back a few pages on this, I've got a 23qt presto en route from the states. Bought a few 1 litre kilner jars to get some large spawns on the go.
Liking the idea of running Millet due to the ease of prep. Anyone have a link to the brand they use or do I just use any from the pets store?
Would a different grain be faster at colonising or is that just dependant on your mycelium?

I usually get my millet from eBay but my usual is out of stock. There’s some in there though.

Brilliant! Had a search. There's a few websites selling 20kg for around £15!
Easy!
