Can anyone recommend a cheap source for Powder Free Nitrile Gloves? I'm also looking for a sharp scalpel and spare blades.

Amazon for the scalpel. Most use a No#7 handle including me Scalpel handle
A lot of people also use No#11 Blades
Not sure on gloves, I rob them from work

Thanks for the links, very helpful, not my part of the country but I'll have a scout round locally for the hardwood.

I think Wilko do them https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-nitrile-gloves/p/0342716
I use the latex ones, a £4.75 box keeps me going for a good while

Thank you Sir. These look perfect. I've went ahead and bookmarked both of these for future orders.

Thanks for the recommendation keeno. I wouldn't say these are the cheapest, but they certainly look good enough to get started. The pain trying to buy gloves online is you never know what size to order. I've not a clue whether I've got an XL sized hand or a Large hand. Who knows? It's a tough one to call. The last thing I want is to be stuck with 100 gloves that are either too small or big for me.

This weekend, a nearby B&Q are running a 20% off sale and I'm in need of a SAB. This heavy duty 68L plastic storage box looks pretty decent:
https://www.diy.com/departments/form-xago-heavy-duty-clear-68l-plastic-xl-stackable-storage-box-lid/3663602248897_BQ.prd
They also have the same storage box available in a bigger 94L size.
https://www.diy.com/departments/form-xago-heavy-duty-clear-94l-plastic-stackable-nestable-storage-box/3663602314196_BQ.prd
Do you reckon this would make for a good SAB? Which would be the better of the two sizes?

I’m an engineer and these types of gloves and many like them are all available. The general consensus is that unless you’re quite a lot less than 6’ then you’re gunna need the XL’s.
If you’re a smaller dude (like 5’-5’6) you’re most likely M.
If you’re between 5’6” and 6’ then you’re most likely an L.
If you have a penis though, you’re an XL

I guess the good thing with the latex is that they're ONE SIZE!

hmm, dunno, they look a bit cloudy, and I find I want them to be crystal clear... I think I got mine from The Range, but that was a few years back. Also, it seems to have lots of internal angles and that just means more cleaning/ spaces for lurgies to hang out
on the plus side, they're pretty cheap, so you could do worse

Yeah, you make a good point about the plastic looking awfully cloudy. That could be a serious pain in the ass whilst trying to work within the SAB.
Funnily enough, when I was at The Range on Monday, I noticed the following plastic storage box on sale. What do you reckon?
https://www.therange.co.uk/household/storage/plastic-storage-boxes-and-bags/wham-plastic-storage-box#295069
What's the ideal size? Not only do they have this particular 80L size, but they also have a 110L sized plastic storage box also.

You learn something new everyday! Thanks for clearing this up. From what you're telling me, it sounds like I'd be best grabbing a box of XL gloves considering I'm over 6ft and have a penis.

Regarding the cloudiness of B&Q boxes. If I'm not mistaken this particular brand has some boxes that are super cloud and it's almost impossible to see what's inside, while other boxes are more clear. Here is the box I have:
it's not crystal clear as you can see but works fine for me. If you don't mind having a SAB without a lid, IKEA has a lot of different box sizes, but not many lids to match them (at least the last time I was in IKEA Wembley they had only 2 different lid sizes). Those boxes are more clear, cheaper and have thinner plastic, so should be easier to cut holes.

In the end, I picked up an 80L plastic storage box from The Range. It was the cheapest option at only £8-9. It was a toss up between that or the 110L. When looking at them side by side, I felt the 80L seemed way more practical. The 110L was just way too big for my needs.
The only pain in the arse, is once I got home, I flipped the 80L container and tried laying it on the kitchen counter for a neat little work space. Sadly though, my cupboards are 1" too big for me to get the SAB under there so I'm now going to need to pick up a small table for me to carry out all SAB work. Where I'll find the space to put it somewhere though, I'll never know.
Just a quick one folks, is there a particular food dehydrator that people recommend? After shopping around, I came across this and thought it looked really good with its larger capacity:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/SousVideTools-Hendi-Machine-Preserver-Dehydrator/dp/B075DBPR7W
Also, does anyone here use a mini fridge? You can pick one up second hand for fairly cheap over on Gumtree. A small fridge seems useful for storing all sorts of shroom related items including spore syringes, agar plates, colonised grains/bags etc. Keeping everything separate from our kitchen fridge will keep the missus off of my back.

I’ve had my eye on that dehydrator for a bit so if you do get it you’ll have to report back. I bought a similar one for about £60 from fuck knows where and every time I dried any fruits they came out looking burnt.
Normally my APE’s dry a lovely white and gold colour but this seemed to sort of char them. Tried a few times on lower temps and same results so I gave it to the missus for fruit and jerky.
When I started out just over a year ago I got This dehydrator and it’s still going strong. You may need to invest in some silicone sheets as the smaller chunks of fruit will fall through but it’s never failed me yet!
As for the mini fridge, I’ve thought about it but I got given an old fridge freezer that I keep in the garage for Myco purposes. I’d say give it a try if you can pick one up for cheap secondhand.

Myc Hunt, you've been a huge help. Thank you for all your quick fire and informative responses. You've been making my decision making so much easier with my decision making.

With regards to that Dehydrator, it's great to hear it peaked your interest too. It's a little pricier than most other dehydrators, but with it being commercial grade, and the fact everything is stainless steel, I reckon it'll be built to last. If for whatever reason, later down the line, and I decide to stick it up for sale, I reckon it'll hold it's value as long as I look after it. It's a good size too so I reckon I'll be able to dehydrate my entire haul all in one sitting too which will be useful.
Once I order it, and I finally get round to using and operating the thing, I'll report back with my findings. From the reviews though, it looks really promising.

If you were to do things all over again, would you still choose to buy the dehydrator you're currently using, or would you save the cash and pick up a pricier dehydrator like the one I originally linked to?

An old fridge/freezer sounds brilliant if you've got the space for one. Unfortunately, I don't have a garage, so I'm a little tight for space. My attic would be a great place for me to do all things mycology related, but a lot more time and money would need to be invested to get everything up and running.
Instead, what I plan to do is use my office cupboard to get things going. It seems more than enough space to get going. If I'm really enjoying the hobby, and I want to kick things up a notice, I may clean out the attic, and throw together a grow tent and do everything there instead. It's a far greater space though, and would take more electricity to keep the entire room at a stable temperature.
With the cupboard though, I'll need to get my electrician over and ask him to fit a plug at the very bottom of the cupboard to connect everything. That way, I can keep the cupboard doors closed at all times, instead of having to run cables outside of the cupboard and have the doors opening and closing more frequently.
A mini fridge sounds great though. Since I'm not in any great rush to get going, I'm able to take my time to try scoop up a few bargains along the way, as I round up all the equipment needed to get started. A mini fridge in my office under my desk would be the perfect cold storage unit.
Got another quick question for you Myc Hunter, since I've bought Agar, I'm also going to need Agar plates. These were recommended in a previous post in this link HERE. They look great and seem like an absolute bargain. The question I have though is do you think this is an excessive amount of plates for someone just getting into the field? If so, do you have any other suggestions to get me started? 3 other suggestions are
- LIDL Salsa and Guacamole Tubs. They are 50p a pop or something along those lines?
- This eBay Seller in this link HERE has a 20 pack of plates available for £9.99
- This Seller in this link HERE offers a 20 pack for £7.62
And lastly, when it comes to buying spore syringes, I was going to buy Golder Teachers. From what I've read, they seem like a beginner friendly strain to get started. This UK Vendor has them on offer in this link HERE. Would you recommend Golden Teachers as a first strain? And secondly, have you heard of this particular Vendor? He was recommended over on Reddit and I like the look of this strain options and prices.
Thanks again for all the help.
