I have golden teacher spores but only swabs and prints atm. If you have a look on reddit for EU spore hub there's plenty of trusted vendors on here.
I had some from this subreddit and for a first timer I would advise ordering from a real company first. As first timer with PF they are likely to directly inject the spores which is a bit risky even with a good syringe.
The syringes I had from reddit where OK but 1 out of 3 just produced snot on agar. It was a well rated UK guy and one syringe was a freebie so I didn't complain.
The bonne maman glasses are OK and the lids are compatible with bigger jars that you can get later for grains.

just a note on those sauce pots, I got some for no pour, they were a bit opaic, but that's not the real problem for noob agar clean up, the problem is you can't take a decent picture of the agar surface, with the lid being so far from the agar surface you can't get a camera to focus on the culture, so if you need a second opinion via pics on here, you're screwed. Another problem is the limited surface area. I guess they're OK for transfers/making more cultures but not ideal for clean-up on agar
I went back to petri dishes, £40 for 500 from here
cut an inch off the end of a cling film roll as a cheap alternative to parafilm.

Anyone have any luck finding plastic lids that fit the Kilner Preserve Jar 1 Litre? Looking to follow the Pastys Easy Lid Tek to do away with the holes in lid for polly etc

You better check the size of the opening in your jars, they are for wide mouth jars with an 86mm opening. I almost ordered them before I realised. I did find the smaller ones somewhere but can’t remember where atm.
Edit. Amazon and eBay has the 70mm as well.

What are people doing for grain jars at the moment? Feels like we have a real shortage.

I can't get the proper mason jars anywhere locally. Normal jars work fine in my experience. I use a collection of pasta sauce jars mostly. Big jars from Lidl or Aldi, the ones that come with pickles in them are the biggest I've found so far. I've been eating a lot of pickled beetroot lately...

Pickle/sauce type jars are the bomb, not sure why anybody would prefer canning jars with their awkward 2 piece lid. They don't make canning jars in Europe or the UK anyway (afaik).
I get my sauce type jars locally (empty) but I've found plenty of online stores that carry them in Spain, pretty sure you guys can find something in the UK too with a little digging.

Then that's that I worried about a 2 hour pc run with them.

Well I've put them through the wringer myself and I feel the glass on these is even thicker and more resistant than canning jars. Don't ask me why but I ran these jars once for 3 hours at 30 psi, grain came out all charred af but them jars did fine.
All jars can and will break occasionally tho and canning jars are no exception.

I only ever use food jars like pasta sauce jars and I've not had one break after many runs. I had one jar crack but it was like a crappy six sided jar and I think I cracked it by taking out the pc while hot. Food grade jars are made to be sterilised so they have such a long shelf life, just let them cool in the PC. I can get pasta sauce jars for like 60p and they work just fine.

Tesco do big 1 litre jars of olives for £2, about the same size as a quart jar, I think. Just find a good recipe for tapenade and give it to your friends and family. I work in a cafe and get lots of their old jars for free, can't hurt to ask your local restaurants/cafes.

I agree, those two piece lids can be duch a faff! If you were wanting to preserve food for years then they probably do the job, but I don't think they're necessary for this hobby. Shop-bought preserved food jars have likely been subjected to high yemps or pressures to make sure people dont get sick. The lids are more likely to fail after many uses than the glass is to break.

A while ago I spent £40 on 18 x 1 litre masons with 2 piece lids but they are about 50% fatter than a qt jar and a bit shorter, any reason they wouldn't be ok for grains?
Going forward I'll stick with basic ones, thanks guys

I've always gotten the 2piece lid kilner jars from eBay. Probably more expensive than need but when I a2g or g2g I like that I can get all the rings off then just quickly lift me lids by the polly and shut again

Agreed, forgot that I also appreciated the 2 piece lids back when I used to pour LC or LI, they come in handy for that. But for me that alone doesn't justify the price I have to pay to import them. There are a couple vendors in my country that actually carry Ball jars but they still are ridiculously expensive because the vendors themselves have to have them imported from the US.
