Just read through that entire thread, looks like you used the same company I’ve been looking at for the filters, I was gonna go with a smaller one but most people say go bigger so I’ll probably go 24x24, that’s what you went for in the end wasn’t it?
How you getting on with the thinner 3” filter? That’s what I was planning to go with anyways, had much contamination issues?
As per the fan I think it was This one you went with, at least it’s the replacement as the last one was discontinued. How much did it actually set you back?
All this maths gives me a headache

This fan is too big for my filter but I thought I could up the power as it gets clogged over the years. You defo need a controller . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fan-Speed-Controller-3-amp-Triac-High-Quality-ME1-3/292264269477?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648
In all it cost me £411. Filter £200+ fan £100/110 + controller £40 plus wood and fittings.
Before I used to think how much agar work I needed to do and felt anxious sometimes. I now look forward to using the hood and have no problem leaving a lid off for 5 minutes or taking my time. Physics says as long as everything is behind the object in front of the flow it very hard for ufos to get in there.
Enjoy it matey.

Ahh so that fan is too big then? So you’re using the controller to reduce the flow?
I’m gonna do more reading, Jasun have 20% off at the moment so I might just get the 24x24 filter anyways and keep looking for fans.
Cheers for the shout tho Ed, sab just ain’t fun, always been scared to start getting fh together and want to make sure I do it right. I’m sure you understand

Yeah the fan is too big by choice so the filter lasts longer. When it gets clogged the next fan down wont be enough to run it. With a controller it will.

I had a presto shipped from the US a few years ago. Sooner or later the rubber gasket ring will worn out and the pressure cooker won't seal very well. For me, it was inevitable to get the All-American 925 ... They are quite an investment but they will never ever fail

Think it was part of some us seller scheme and tax was paid upfront so no hidden charges with mine, just be sure to check with the seller.

So I was looking for Petri Dishes in bulk vs buying 20 at a time. Originally I was buying 20 for around £7, not bad. Until I done a little searching and come across the following -
500x Petri Dishes for £34.20
Thought I'd give it a shot and they turned up today (free next day delivery) -

That's £1.36 a pack. Definitely had to share with everyone here.

"will deform on autoclaving"
doesn't that mean they'll not take a PC cycle? I guess that's ok if you're sure of your pouring skills. I no pour atm, seems a bit safer with my shoddy SAB skills

Wow 500 should last a while! I have no room to store a giant box of petri dishes, so I buy off ebay, my last ones were £2.40 for 10. They take a few weeks to get here from China though.
