Evening everyone, hope you're all well.
I'm currently on the hunt for mason jars. Seems to be pricey in the UK. I've found the 946ml ball wide mouth jars but they are £44 for 12. I noticed at my local home bargains they have these for a pound each but they aren't wide mouth. My current plan is shoebox Tek. Do I really need wide mouth if I'm not doing cakes?
Or if anyone can push me in the right direction for jars in the UK I'd appreciate it. I've got a Presto 23q in the mail if that's any use to you for sizes.

These jars are exactly what you need. 10 fit exactly into a presto 23Q. I use them and kilners and now they are mixed up dont notice the difference.
I use shoe box using the tubs in my signature. 4 fit exactly into the 62L mono tubs from Range. They were selling the shoe boxes in home bargains for 89p

Cheers mate for the reply. I'm going to run to the bigger home bargains tomorrow because the smaller one didn't have any shoe boxes. What size did you manage to grab? I'll also grab 10 jars. Just to be clear, I don't need wide mouth? I'm on the right path, right?

Wide mouth are for making cakes. You will be using grains? If so these jars are great. The shoe boxes were 7 litres

Yeah I will be mate. Most likely Rye. Which I'm currently shopping for.
I've ordered a presto 23, 10 bricks of coir and 100kg of verm so far.

I favour jar with small lids, within reason. A smaller lid means it it is take off or just lifted up there is less room/chance of contams getting in. Of course if you went making stuff in vodka bottles you would have huge difficulty getting the grains out.
Some passata jars worked well for me as they have quite high volume and are tall but can still just fit in a household PC you might get in argos, so they are nearly hitting the lid and so maximising the room in the PC. The lids are smaller than many jars, but still plenty big to shake grains out of. Passata is very cheap and easy/quick to eat (while a jar of say pickles would last me ages). I wish beer or soup would come in decent jars! some fruit/veg juices come in similar bottles but are usually fairly expensive.

I have some large PP5 tubs with really big lids to have made inoculation ports on them, holes of about 8mm diameter which are plugged with silicone stoppers. So in a SAB I can just unplug it and drop in myc and replug it, I use a tweezers rather than a scalpel for this, I personally find a tweezers a lot more useful and easier to use for certain things.

I love your style of cultivation. Its informative, inventive, obviously gets results and for some reason makes me a little bit hungry

Oh right lol perspective was way off lol, keep the sub moist as you can without drowning them to get as much weight as you can into them and let them grow right up to the point your leaving the house for your holiday then quickly slice them all off or twist and pull if you have the time

I got my jars from the Range, although they weren't that cheap, around £3.49 each per quart jar. I saw the ones in Home Bargains and didn't buy them because they looked very thin, but others on here said they work just fine and they're like 99p or something so it's much less of an investment upfront! Also that shop has some great big clear plastic tubs for about £5, grab a few, they're great for an SAB or even just storing all the myco-crap in.

I managed to get 10 jars for £10, 4 shoeboxes for £3.56 (89p ea) from Home Bargains, 62l mono tub from the Range for £9.99 and a 25l mixing bucket with lid from Wilko's for £7.50. Haven't had to spend much at all on those items. That was with the help from @Edmunter
