Slightly OT but anyone know when it's worth starting keeping an eye out for mushrooms in the fields? I'm in Bristol if that makes any difference. I heard it was after the first frosts so I guess any week now?

Think the 1st Lib finds were in June this year, so no frost required!!

best of luck, I've been out hunting in that area for the last 3 years and found jack shit
tell a lie, I've found LOADS of mushrooms (pics soon in my gallery), but none of them libs or cyans... even found some rhododendrons and no joy..
as far as i know, frost kills them off, so get out there before it arrives. if it hasn't already. happy hunting!

I hope so. Will be coming on a spouse visa. I'm trying to get back before the end of the year now actually. Cant wait to get back into my lab. I have a cousin over here that's suffering from lymphoma and is getting kemo treatments that are really hard on here. I wish I was back there and was able to grow her some medicine now.

Woot woot! Good to have you back on board the Brit Train Base! Hope shit works out, sounds like the spouse visa should give you a little more breathing room.
Assume you still got cultures/prints etc? Lemme know if you need anything dude.

Hi! I just wanted to thank everyone for their input on this thread! I have pretty much read every page an soaked up some serious information needed to get me started, I' ve not grown anything from spores before I just to just buy kits back in the day but have the urge to get fully involved this time.
I'm sure I will be a regular on the boards from now so hopefully we can share information and bits n bobs in the future.
I've just been collecting stuff i need this week and going well. My first syringe turns up next week, I will be attempting a liquid culture with golden syrup and then heading to B & Q for some WBS.
Anyway. Thanks again to everybody that everybody that has shared supply land other links for the UK heads.

Cheers Mate! just noticed your from the west county too! I'm currently Bristol based.
Quick question to anybody out there, should i go ahead and purchase Karo for around £7 with shipping or just stick with honey? too many options and my budget is running out

ah good lad! Bristol's an ace place!
I dunno about the Karo, but seems like the consensus on here is to do a Grain Liquid Tek's are much better as you can detect contams a lot easier.
here's a tek to check out:

Karo is a complete red herring IMO, no better than honey. I have had the best LC results with straight honey, pale honey is best as the LC solution is more transparent and easier to spot contams. Organic if you prefer, I like it better, though not sure there's a definitive difference.
I have noticed no difference when adding LME (light malt extract) other than an increased amount of sediment. Stick with honey at between 4-6% and you'll be fine.
Welcome aboard Hawk.

Agree, light honey works beautifully, and it's cheap and available.
I've been using LME and dextrose since I bought a bunch (LME from brewers, dextrose from any chemist really) but it's not noticeably better than honey water IME.
