Home bargains

The home bargains jars are just as good imo. I brought three cases two years ago, been through multiple pc cycles without a single problem. I thought they looked a bit thinner though so I weighed them to compare and the home bargains jars were only slightly lighter. I didn’t measure the thickness properly though.

Failing having a thickness measuring tool, weighing is a great way to determine the thickness providing they are the same size i.e the same amount of glass lettering stuck on and the threaded neck being the same I know the capacity will be the same its the bits not included in the cc that could skew the weight difference results. The kilner jars look to have less lettering possibly meaning the others could appear thicker using the weight because of the extra letteringadding to the weight. Im not sure if it does add up to extra/less weight just a thought i had.

They visually look thinner, feel thinner and I will take more care when breaking up mycellium but for the price you can buy 3:1 to kilners

I was a bit cautious With them to start but it didn’t take long till I was treating them exactly the same as my kilners, including whacking them to break up spawn. I’ve not had one break yet. I really don’t think there’s too much to worry about with them.

Yes...BUT I bought an electric hotplate recently and for the first time ever I've been able to keep the PC at the right pressure and ran a 3ish our cycle with my oats so I'll know in the next couple of weeks if this will finally work. I fucking hope so cause fuck me it's depressing how much I've thrown out before i even got a first flush.
I'll let you know when I know.

Get them drier before loading into jars... like- "that's too dry!" dry : especially for bags... I've been doing them no prep... will dry something written up after a few more tests ... definitely imperative to dry them thoroughly: the hold enough moisture for colonization internally

I have been leaving them overnight to dry. Im still getting flushes but im never sure the spawn is only bacterial. I have a shit tonne of projects going so will keep trying.
How long do you boil yours for?
The bacteria only appears right at the end but im not sure if its just sweating sometimes as its the grains that vacuum seal themselves to the glass.
Last flush was banging though and had to dig out loads of invitro fruits beforehand, which is usually a sign of bacteria but still got this...

Home bargains

Thanks for the info mate. To be honest i prefer physically going shopping for materials than ordering them online. Stores are stocking bird seeds due to the current season, so it's the perfect time to learn and start a wbs tek.

I low boil for maybe an hour or so? Until I start seeing burst grain... then fan drying them, turning them every 15 minutes or so for a couple-several hours... PC at 15psi for 2.5 hrs, after venting steam for 10 minutes and reaching pressure... some guys run bags for 3-4 hrs: 2.5 has been sufficient for both jars and bags IME ...

THIS I was arsing about with a fan and towels etc etc trying my best to get them dry but now leave them overnight. then when you mix the outer ones with the somewhat moist ones in the middle they even out and they're perfect.
I really think the new hotplate will work for me cause before the pressure was all over the place.
My current WBS grow seems good so far but a few more days till it's colonised the coir/verm

a micrometer is suited to flat surfaces, but even with a vernier you will only measure the top thickness. Most glass is not uniform thickness so you will not see the weakest/thinnest point. If you hold it up to the light and rotate it you can get a good idea if it is fairly uniform or not.
