It is not a violation of my first amendment rights to make fun of your gross girlfriend.
If I shout "he's got a gun" in a park, probably barely anything will come of it.
If I shouted "I have a bomb" in a government building I would absolutely be detained, and then likely released.
All three are terrible examples of what you are trying to prove. The first two examples don't really apply at all, and the third one is outrageously unrealistic.
None of them is even close to having anything to do with whether or not dancing in public is a 1st amendment right, and whether or not people should be allowed to peaceably assemble at a memorial without a permit.

Yes, because I think it is more stupid to purposefull perform an action that I know has hte potential to land me in a cage in the short term. No "risk" of being caught. I'm being ordered by a police officer. No compliance = arrest.
Its a simple decision in my book.
now: without a police officer, would i follow a law that makes no sense? Hell no - i'm in my living room smoking a bowl right now.

It kind of is - a little bit though... I dunno. Jail for dancing? Really?
The couple arrested were not annoying anyone....
I can't agree with this arrest. This was a fairly perfect parallel of the "Marijuana Laws". Someone wants to dance - it is "forbidden" - so the public laws force them into jail. Really? Why not just let them dance? WTF?????????????? Why do you have to be sooooooooooooooo annoyed by someone's dancing/smoking, that you would put someone in a cage because they "annoy" you. I would consider someone a "freak" for wanting to "cage" someone.
You think I'm "annoying or weird" for smoking pot? You want to put me in a cage for engaging in nature? Maybe you have the issues?
It wasn't the dancing per se that got them arrested. It was for failure to obey a lawful order. They should have just walked away. They knew what they were doing was illegal, they planned it and they were confrontational. They got what they asked for, maybe with a little extra sauce. Fuck 'em.
I don't want to put anybody in jail for smoking pot (or doing heroin, for that matter) but I would have no problem with laws forbidding it in public spaces like the Jefferson Memorial. You can't drink alcohol there either.

Late on this thread, did some backtracking..
Quote:
Quote:
Finally, IMO Washington DC is a fairly crime ridden place. Lots of violent crime happens on a daily basis. The police are tasked with prioritizing which crimes they want to actively engage in preventing. To me it seems like harassing a bunch of protesters, committing a crime or otherwise, should be much lower on their priority list then apparently it is.
I can agree with that.
These police, were Park Police- Specifically assigned to the Jefferson Memorial- How much action you think they really get to see?
Quote:
So enter a park. Shout... he's got a gun!
Let us know how that works out.
Or government office building. Shout... I've got a bomb!
Let us know how claiming freedom of speech works for you.
Or... just walk up to some big mean looking guy. Tell him his woman is an ugly skank.
Let us know how many teeth he knocks out.
This are silly examples, no? You have the free right to shout "he's got a gun" - but why would you even do that? It doesnt take a law to know thats a dumbass thing to do.. Same goes for shouting "I've got a bomb!" .. WTF, that would be moronic- Especially now, with all the fear and bullshit hyped up about such things.. Uhg... X.x And by all means you could claim Freedom of speech, but you deserve to get a kick in the ass at least- What a retarded way to try and express ones Rights..
And you have complete freedom to go up to anyone and call them on their loved ones- But as mentioned that has nothing to do with your rights.. It has to do on how much you are willing to risk a punch in the teeth.. X.x
This whole inccident (starting with the preceeding one) is Poetic Injustice.. Poetic Irony.. The whole thing- And the Government and Courts can plainly see this- It's not likely they will want the constitution/people to 'win' in a sitatuaion like this- because of the Self-Ritcheousness it may (and most likely would) inspire..
Many scenarios of dumbass laws are handled in this way..
Quote:
Yes, because I think it is more stupid to purposefull perform an action that I know has hte potential to land me in a cage in the short term.
This Dancing Protest by these people in this video- Was exactly meant to be a protest- In reaction to the results of an initial affair there, of a small group of college students, silently dancing to headphone on the morning of Jefferson birthday, to in Fact Celebrate his birthday- In the video posted here, the people knew what they were getting into- and Intended to do so to Make A Point.
The place is a public park, and the court ruling was for the original event-
"the conduct is nonetheless prohibited because it stands out as a type of performance, creating its own center of attention and distracting from the atmosphere of solemn commemoration that the Regulations are designed to preserve….National memorials are places of public commemoration, not freewheeling forums for open expression," - http://ethicsalarms.com/2011/05/31/dancing-with-thomas-jefferson-how-assholes-make-the-law-spoil-life-for-everyone/
There is video of it out there.
In my opinion, by their very definition, such things as Kissing, or wearing certain kinds of clothing, someone who is disabled, or handicapped, foreigners, or
Quote:
GI_Luvmoney said:

, etc
Could all create distraction- The only way to prevent it would be to let one person in at a time, or heck, no-one at all! That would keep it Quiet, and Solemn..
And what does "Freewheeling" even mean? That's a pretty ..well "willy-nilly" word for the courts to use to justify their actions-
And by the defintion- a. Free of restraints or rules in organization, methods, or procedure. b. Heedless of consequences; carefree.
By no means was the first incident intended or expressed as such.. And that was before this ruling was even ever present..
Quote:
Yeah, just let this thread die ...
STOP RESISTING!
That's what cops yell as they kick your ass. It makes 'em feel all justified.
And WTF? Its people like you that allow dumbass rules/laws to continue being in place- That is exactly the opposite of what Thomas Jefferson stood for..
The system is fucked in so many ways- And the excuse is- "This is the best we have/can do.." I Call BullShit on that- Half the people I've seen on here could probably set up a better foundation..
I can't even understand how I can sit around as much as I do.. We need to take Action.. We need to Unfuck the world- and idly sitting by, and "not resisting" (in any situation of injustice) is the very Reason the Fucked Up continues to go on..
It's the system that keeps most people in poverty, or addiction, or physical illness, or fat, lazy, stupid, and ignorant.. It is has been manufactured for these very things.. How can you sit idly by, and allow this to happen to your Family, Your Friends, Your Partners, and Children! How can you stand by and allow this to happen to Yourself?
We are slaved to A Corporate Fiat Money system.. and everything we're fed by this system is meant to keep us in it..
It's fucking Insanity! And Unsanity!
"If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." –Thomas Jefferson
Despite the 'apparent' stupidity in the world.. So many people are incredibly smart.. really.. and a system that is obviously redundant, and unjust, has it's loopholes, and cracks..
So many of us here, consider ourselves to by highly intelligent and intellectual, rational, and reasonable people.. (intuitive taboot..)- What exactly are we doing with all these Smarts.. We could be Outsmarting this system, instead of trying to Outsmart eachother and ourselves..
And Solemn Commemoration.. When did Commemoration become strictly Solemn? The most Solemn thing about the whole place, is that Lack of Jeffersons Values in todays Government and People..
Celebrate that if you can..

far more than you would imagine since there's thousands of visitors every day and washington DC is a hotbed of criminal activity even without including the lawyers, bankers and politicians
if there were no action then why would they need assign officers to the memorial

There are very few laws that make absolutely no sense. I also probably break a lot of laws I don't even know exist. Therefore I have no idea.

Fair enough, it is just what I imagine..
That there wouldnt be much to do in such a quiet and solemn place for Security/Police.. and when there is something that needs taken care of- They would be all gung ho about it- No matter the punity of the 'offence/infraction'..
I can't help but continously come back to that Police were originally meant to "Serve and Protect".. and now seem to be meant to "Enforce Laws"..

It depends. If there are serious consequences for pissing standing up, well I probably won't. This is the only life that I will have and I'm not wasting my entire life because I wanted to piss standing up. However I will break drug laws. I won't now, but when I'm older and can easily conceal it, I certainly will. I'd be missing on life if I didn't.

I find this is very true. Cops are used to taking shit all the time, so being respectful goes a long way. It also helps to not dress in a "sketchy" way. I've been pulled over with a pipe on the floor of the passenger seat, but because I fulfilled the requirements i stated, I didn't even get a ticket.
