Cascade foothills hunt..

I decided since the morel season is over here down low where I live, I would drive up to around 1500ft in elevation. My main goal was to actually harvest some fiddlehead ferns though...
I diddnt find any morels, but scored big with fiddlehead ferns, and found a few of the darker species of oyster mushrooms that grow here as well. I diddnt clean anything yet, and the stembutts on the oysters will be used to hopefully start a new patch..

Here are some lighter colored oysters growing from a buried big leaf maple branch I suspect.. My buddy thought it was growing straight from the earth...lol

Here is some habitat shots, and some randoms that I found while up in the foothills just outside of Vancouver,Wa

fantastic pictures! how do fiddlehead ferns taste? Are they worth hunting? I love the habitat photo's as well. I feel very lucky I live so close to the cascades every time I get to go up on the mountain. Thanks for sharing.

Right on guys...many thanks.:rasta:

Fiddlehead ferns are definatly worth hunting maynardjameskeenan. They go for between 12-18 dollars a pound here at the farmers market. I eat some, and sell the rest to the mushroom/wildcrafted food vendors... I cant really describe the taste after cooking, its very unique and super tasty..... But when fresh and uncooked they smell alot like cucumber..

If you are going to harvest some, now is the time here in the pnw.. Its important to only pick 2-3 per fern though(they usually have 7-9 per fern plant) if you pick more, it taxes the plant too much and they can die..
