Or how about devotion to romantic love since science has taken some of the steam out of the god idea?
What ever keeps the lid on things.

Nits is another word for lice. Lice itch. Delousing removes lice and makes you itch less. Itching less feels good. You can get by without delousing though, don't get me wrong lice are small and its easy to not notice them until they bite into you, and its not like people know you have them unless they look really close. Overall though, living without them leaves one with less to think about, which is always good, right?

If you could get a devotion to romantic love to cover as many areas with the potential to provoke fear as Christianity then sure.

I think it does although not with fear but desire and modern culture is the evidence. Now that we cannot be perfected and fulfilled in heaven we can here on earth when we find that perfect soul mate. That one that can bring us to a higher and more perfected state of being. This is the ideal behind romantic love and the lie. A great shield, as good as god. Superior in fact for some. I know this from experience.

I wouldn't know because i've never really cared about a girl beyond what she can do for me sexually. I guess that sort of betrays my age.

The idea of romantic love is also dying out. There will have to be a next great thing for humans to focus on.

When romantic love is gone, humanity will be in trouble. The best source of happiness we have

Buying shit is a good one but the drugs are not widely accepted.

Maybe instead of romantic love we will focus on loving everyone unconditionally and freeing ourselves from actions and thoughts that lead us to hate.

That is so unlikely due to what I think I know about human nature as to be laughable.

Haha, if we can't hang on to romantic love, unconditional love for all of mankind is less likely than a snowstorm in hell.

Romantic love has little to do with unconditional love and mutual support among people.

Best guess based on observation of myself and others and a general reading of history and psychology.
How do you know that path is there for us to take?
