I usually do the exact same thing, it works wonders.

I believe I read somewhere hangovers are actually withdrawl symptoms so I guess if you're drinking more your body doesn't go through the withdraw as badly? Maybe?

The reason you get less hangovers as you drink more often is because you build up a tolerance. The presence of alcohol in your body causes increased expression of the enzymes which metabolise alcohol, for example alcohol dehydrogenase. So as you drink alcohol more regularly you will have higher levels of these alcohol degrading enzymes so you will recover faster from intoxication and degrade the hangover causing toxins faster than a normal person.
Thank you for bringing some sense to this thread. Alcohol metabolism is actually quite well understood.
Oh and as a high-functioning alcoholic (lolz) I also feel that the quality of booze can affect hangover greatly. For example well drinks poured with cheap alcohol seem much worse than top shelf booze. I would attribute that to increased impurities found in cheaper alcohol: methanol and various aldehydes etc.
this makes sense. i had about half a handle of tanqueray gin last night (48%) and woke up at 5am, haven't had any hangover and been productive all day. a week ago though i had 6 or so PBR's and was worshiping the porcelain goddess all morning. weird.
maybe it's just the way i drink hard alcohol though? i usually do shots the whole night while drinking water/gatorade in between. when i have beer, i only drink beer.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangover
"Some aspects of a hangover are viewed as symptoms of acute ethanol withdrawal, similar to the longer-duration effects of withdrawal from alcoholism, as determined by studying the increases in brain reward thresholds in rats (the amount of current required to receive two electrodes implanted in the lateral hypothalamus) following ethanol injection.[3] Dehydration is caused by alcohol's ability to inhibit the effect of anti-diuretic hormone on kidney tubules, which leads to a hyperosmolar state, which inturn causes shrinking of (loss of water) by the brain cells which causes hangover."
This is interesting though:
"Potentially beneficial remedies
Cannabis: Cannabis has had applications in the treatment of nausea and stimulates hunger, facilitating the replenishment of complex carbohydrates. (...) Hair of the dog: The belief that consumption of further alcohol after the onset of a hangover will relieve symptoms, based upon the theory that hangover represents a form of withdrawal[36] and that by satiating the body's need for alcohol the symptoms will be relieved. Certainly the additional alcohol has a sedating and anaesthetic effect."
