inoculating sawdust and/or woodchips (psylocibe cyanescens )
    #14527404 - 05/28/11 05:54 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hey guys, long time no see, I haven't been posting on the forums much lately due to some complications ( purchasing a new property, moving out, etc..)

however now, things have calmed down a bit and I'm ready to start growing SHROOMIES <3 <3 ... onmnomnomnom...

This year I am growing p. cyanescens and azurescens, which are both wood lovers and are both very potent species; however I have 1 question to ask this amazing comunity of talented and dedicated cultivators.

is it possible to inoculate saw-dust or finely ground woodchips directly from a spore syringe ? I've seen people using slices to inoculate wood, or literally just droping a couple of spores onto a piece of wood. However I have 2 syringes ready and need to inoculate some jars asap. I could do this the old fashioned way and inoculate grain, then from grain transfer to a wooden medium, then from wood medium to outdoor bed; however this has 2 downsides

1: there are too many inoculation steps, and I am runing late in the season for outdoor growing

2: it takes longer for the mycelium to colonize a new medium ( i.e takes longer for grain to colonzie wood, then for grain to colonize another batch of grain)

Due to the fact that I am runing late in the season due to moving to my new property ( a nice piece of land with lots of forest and a creek, perfect for outdoor mushies). I have to get htem outside asap.

I know about all the methods of colonizing pasteorized wood and transfers and changes in temperature needed to induce fruiting etc.... I have done tons of research on wodlovers, and would be happy to help out anyone in need. However all I need to know is if I could inoculate small shreded woodchips directly from a spore syringe rather then agar medium. I do not want to waste the 70$ I have just spent on the syringes x)......

p.s for anyone who saw cyanescens in the thread name and thought they could find something usefull, I will not let you down. Here are some very helpful links on wood-lovers:

From what I hear it's possible but very slow usually you start with grain spawn

You buy furniture.  You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life.  Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your sofa issue handled.  Then the right set of dishes.  Then the perfect bed.  The drapes.  The rug.  Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you.  Chuck Palahniuk
