This is an awesome thread! Thanks for sharing this bloodworm. I wish you the best of luck!

I am amazed that those jars are contam free thus far being that they were inoculated by a wild print.

How does the potency of this wild cube compare to other domesticated cubes? (I am just curious. Sorry if I piss off any of the "cube is a cube" crowd by asking)

in my opinion, mother nature rules all.
i think mushrooms are best consumed fresh with wild fruit from the same field.
however, we are left with no choice but to dry them (in most cases).
potency aside,
i think the overall feel of wild mushrooms vs. "domesticated" home grown mushrooms is completely different.
i don't want to rant about why.
i've done it too many times in the past.

i think outdoor field mushrooms are much more "valuable" in a sense, because they were produced naturally.
i'd like to think that when we consume mushrooms we are consuming the earth as well as the fungi.
some of my best trips have been on hot sunny days eating pins and blackberries in the field.

i think both cultivating and hunting are rewarding in their own way.
each is an art and a science and i think that more hunters & cultivators should combine efforts, get together and stop the watered down "shroom strain" industry.
99% of the reason people believe a cube is a cube is because they are eating cultivated fungi.
eating wild fungi is a completely different experience.

i won't speak on the issue of potency because i believe that potency is just a matter of taste.
cev's, oev's, euphoria, the come-up, come-down...
this is what determines potency?
i think what determines potency is where we are led, even if we don't leave the couch or the field for that matter.
each experience should not be taken for granted but should be an experience that teaches us or leads us in a certain direction.
and once again, i believe the best way to this "place" is through nature and consuming what is indeed a gift from it.

You make a valid point. Potency is subjective and varies from person to person. However, I have experienced some wild cubes that were active in much much smaller doses than other wild cubes.

I agree with you that more hunters should collaborate with cultivators to increase genetic diversity for all mycophiles.

You have inspired me. I think I will get off my lazy butt and go mushroom hunting this weekend.

Please keep us posted on how this grow goes.

will do.
yes, potency definitely varies from field to field. there is no question about that.
i'll point you to a thread where i discuss this in detail.
some of you may have read it already (i know enigmatic has).

Can any TI's identify my dried shrooms please?

you will have to read through some litter to get to my point, which deals directly with wild cube potency, cultivation and a variety of other things.

hope you enjoy.

on another note:
good news!

the "spot" in question is almost 100% colonized with strong looking mycelium.
i'm glad i didn't pitch it and let it go to waste.
the majority of the jars are at about 90% colonization right now.
i figure by the middle of next week i'll be ready to dunk, roll and throw them in the FC.

the mycelium is spreading very quickly over the "spot" and this leads me to believe that it may not be contamination.
i could be wrong though.

the "spot" is completely colonized with healthy looking mycelium.
pretty sure i'm in the clear (for the time being).

jars are at about 90%.
just waiting on the bottoms to colonize.

qui.

i have a question about this as well.
thanks for bringing it up.
how much perlite should i use.?
here is my dilemma. granted i get there.
i can only use so much given the height of the container and light.
i guess the question becomes...
what's the least amount of perlite that can be used efficiently given the space?

my guestimation was equal to folding a dollar bill in half lengthwise.?
that's the amount i was shooting for anyway.

any opinions?

thanks in advance.

I KNEW this was possible!!
This is exactly what I am planning on doing since I live in one of the states that sellers won't ship to. Thank you for giving me hope & keep up the good work, can't wait to see what pops up!

Not sure how big that fruiting chamber is you have there,
but I'd try to keep it as close to 4" inches as you can.

yikes!
i might have to make some changes to the chamber in that case.

i can just buy the same container and use the bottom of it as the lid.
this should provide more than enough room.
i have to drill a few more holes and remount the light in this case.

That'll probably work.
Also, this is just a suggestion you don't have to do this,
you may want to rethink mounting the light to the top at all
I have read that having the light coming from the side is superior
to light directly overhead.
