For sure!
I just sowed Strombocactus disciformis seeds on pure moist sand in a plastic food container with flipdown lid. Then I sprayed half with 300 ppm gibberellic acid 3 because the seeds are from 2017 so they may need a hand with germination if they are even viable anymore at all..
Hopefully at least some, or just the one...
I also grafted a Matucana madisoniorum seedling today, it's not the only one... 1 of these matucana grafts I will be intentionally etiolating to produce elongated growth (hopefully branched or I may try to induce that). I have Matucana grafts on selenicereus already but today was on peres.
Repotted Pereskiopsis aquosa as well, it's growing nicely! I will just let it go and grow steady for a while until I can take multiple cuttings and share it with a friend. Curious to see if it's any good for grafting.

What's variety is that first pic? And is that a Ferocactus Wislizenii in the second one? Mine has done quite well this year.

First is an Echinocereus rigidissimus?

That's what I'm thinking it is. I'll look in my cacti books sometime. I'm hoping it gets the pink color.
Hopefully the Echinocereus dasyacanthus bloom for me next year. My buddy out west sent me a gigantic one from his ranch. Big Ole fatty

Now that I think back for a minute I believe it did have pink tint to it when my fiance picked it out. But since it's put on major growth and lost its pink. Possibly due to soil mix and sun exposure

Here's a pretty cool moon cactus that the wife picked up on Friday. I'm not really a fan of them, but this guy has turned me around...
Thanks for checking him out!

That's amazing, I am always tempted to get one when I see them at Home Depot. Definitely getting one next time I'm there.

Looks trichocereus, though its hard for me to call the species on that one. Perhaps a hybrid? Not used to seeing short spined trichs with that many ribs.

Are hybrids mainly only between trichocereus species? Any vague ideas of what it could be?
I dont quite understand yet the hybrids that everyone talk about yet.
Thanks for the post

Trichs with that many ribs exist, apparently even San Pedro's. But crosses happen in the wild too, so..
Hybrids are crosses between different species and they exist in many types of plants, animals etc. Generally, closely related species have a "fair" chance of successfully making a hybrid, but there are also hybrids possible between species not even in the same genera.
The singular of genera (=plural) is genus, it is a taxonomical group of species. Hierarchy of species of organisms in biology are ordered like this:
So as I was saying: hybrids are possible with species not even on the same "level" of this ordering but this becomes exceedlingly more difficult and rare to achieve and typically the result is a sterile hybrid organism which cannot reproduce.
Interestingly, hybrids are supposed to be possible between Lophophora species like peyote and cacti not even in the genus Lophophora (in fact i should have one of those).
Hybrids between different trichocereus are not rare, afaik they are not particularly hard to breed?? but they are just a bit unusual. They can make IDing very difficult I guess, but it seems to me like often when a person is growing human-bred hybrid trichs, he/she oughta know about that quite well - but with hybrids from nature it is not so easy of course!

glad to hear
I germinated exactly one Strombocactus disciformis out of the tens I sowed.. i didn't have high hopes as the seeds were from 2017 and apparently viability can drop dramatically.
I had sprayed one half of the container filled with river sand with GA3 to try and promote germination but it seems that it could not help what was simply not viable anymore? However one did germinate within about 1-2 weeks and it was near the border but on the side NOT sprayed with GA3. I guess it was just chance.
It's crazy tiny... i transplanted it to a small container with a seedling mix I made and will grow it until it is big and old enough to be grafted.
