Ha ha ha, right on. Well yours looks like it's been in a bar fight! What's its story?
I have wondered what sort of loph the one you pointed out is cause its shape is definitely different and it has been growing in the same conditions as the others for the past couple of years.

I bought it a few months more than a year ago from a dude who I believe harvested it. It got a nice Summer outside and then I brought it where it's been under a T8 since. I dunno if spider mites in combination with the light made it grow that way or if the light s making it grow that slowly (it only grows one areole at a time), but I love it all the same.
Looked like this when I bought it

The idea of it getting into a bar fight sounds waaaaay better though. In fact, please don't be offended if I steal that for its life story!
All of yours appear to be L. williamsii by the thickness and coloration of the epidermis, flower color, and rib depth.

Yeah it does look like it has undergone a chop. I'd nickname him "the Elephant-man". ...*slurp, slurp* "I am not a Copiapoa." *slurp*

That's what I thought about the ID on mine too, but the shape of that one still baffles me. It was grown from seed and hasn't ever been chopped.

Golfin ernie is the best. Speaking of which, I need to upload a couple pics and give him a trade rating.

The reason I ask is because i have pieces from the same plant. Well i dont have any cool crests like yours. I found a really cool one that looked like a fist but my grandma called dibs on it so I let her have. I post a picture later.
Some of the montrose sections have one long spine on them and others have short ones. I know cuz i got stuck by one all the way to the bone in my knuckle and broke off in side me. Lol. Not very funny at the time though.
I just realized i never rated you as well ernie. Sorry my mind has been so clutterred lately. Thanks much bro those cacti are being sent out to many people. Your a good dude

The crest in the front I am saving for savage.renegade.

This one has me confused. I only found one 15" log at the renovation site that looked like this. Someone else had pillaged the site before I get there and I think they took the majority of this cactus.

This is the crest I kept for my collection.

Beautiful crests golfin_ernie!

Still beautiful so I kept it, but I hate how some think people can't tell the difference.

You might want to edit your own post, Skrink. Just sayin so you don't have to go through a mod edit.
