Rookie to Cultivation (last nights problems)

Before I even get started, I know absolutely nothing about growing mushrooms. I live in Georgia, and have 2 of my own cow fields that ive gotten mushrooms out of since I was probably 13 or 14 years old.
About 3 weeks ago, I ventured out into my field and found these....

Last night, I ventured out into my field after a hard rain, and found tons of these.

Now in my drunken state I proceeded to put a light above them and water them, lmfao. They shriveled up and died. But the field was slap full of these last night with 93% humidity. I wake up early this morning ready to go picking, only to find theyve all shriveled up and died. I registered on this site because im interested in learning about how mushrooms grow and what not rather than going out there picking randomly.
Anyone know why all of my fieldies died on me in the 5 hours I went to sleep?

are you even sure of the species?
im a cultivator not a hunter so i am very cautious about eating things found in the wild.
but your light was probably too close. if that species of mushroom even responds well to light.

Oh the light was definatly too close, I moved it further away right after taking that picture. But the species in the first picture is the kind ive eaten my entire life and had wonderful trips. I had an oldschool 50 year old man take me to the field the first time when I was about 13 or 14 and being young and watching him eat these, I always did too. I wanna say theyre some type of cubensis? They have brown nipples in the center and fade out whitish/yellow towards the end. They also have the little ring around the stem and theyre always full of blue in the stems.
Edit- The first picture, these guys came up in the beginning of May, which ive never seen them come this early. So theyre not quite developed and dont really look like they normally do... Theyre normally much larger.
Generally, they look something like this.

we'll you'll want to go out to your field and take more pictures.
there is a sticky in the hunting and id forum with all the criteria they need for a positive ID
but as far as cultivating cow pattys, you'll want to do it outdoors, not indoors. basically you find some somewhat colonized poo, pile it up, add water, (shady area preferrably) and it'll do what it does in the field right next to your house
