Re: Strain Thread-Strain Discussion Here Only Please [Re: Jdiz]

I'm having a really hard time finding a rhizo sector in my Nepal, Chitwan plates. I have 2 different isolated tomentose monocultures, they look very healthy for tomentose myc.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is, do I need to keep making spore>agar jar's to find a rhizo monoculture? Or would I be better off fruiting some MS and cloning from a fruit? Would that help in finding a rhizo mono culture? Out of the 20+ agar jar's I've used, I have not seen one sign of rhizo mycelium. Not even one ropey strain of mycelium. I've read that any cube can have rhizo mycelium, is this true? I've also found a thread where a guy on another site found rhizo myc(Nepal, Chitwan) in a plate.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Rhizomorphism isn't required. If your tomentose monocultures are good fruiters, use them.

Also, try a less nutritious agar mix. I got the idea from RR and/or EvilMushroom666.
If the plate is less aggressive edit- 'nutritious' the myc has to man up and go look for food with rhizomorphs.

They are monocultures? For sure?

Okay, I just pulled them out of the mini fridge/cooler and I'm pretty sure one is. But not so sure about the other one now that I look harder. I think I may see another sector in the 4th pic from about 2 to 4 o'clock.:foreheadslap: I had them stored in the mini fridge because I thought they were ready and didn't have any extra jar's at the time.

This is a MAZ. clone I'm working on atm. Still needs at least one more transfer.

I thought I had it isolated, made a grain jar(The one with the huge piece of rhizo agar) and made this transfer. Now I don't think I should've made that grain master just yet.

EDIT - and thanks for that tip! I'll deffently try it soon!

It's time for me to make a new clone>iso culture. That last pic looks great! Those fingers are really reaching out.

No, it's not true, at least for the germinations/strains/cultures you're showing.  They do what they do.

I've had strains that wouldn't show good rhyzomorphs to save their life yet still grew and fruited prolifically.  Still I prefer finding rhyzo sectors and cultivating those, as typically they perform better, or so it seems anyway.

There may be a promising sector at 1:30 in the fourth pic you showed though, hard to tell at this distance.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll make sure to have a photo after I transfer that sector.

Here Turban,

Why not just post a link here for the original strain thread?
Here's the original link.  At 144 pages (2,888 posts) there is a lot of info. Most if its in the fist post really. Still lots of info in that thread. If you want to find something in particular, use the search box at the bottom of that thread to search posts made in that thread only. The search box is on the bottom of every thread FYI.

PS There's lots of flaming, arguing etc etc. All in all though its a helpful thread. If nothing else read the first post, and if you want to read about a certain race(strain) search for it in that thread.

Follow the link in the quote above. There are detailed descriptions of most cube strains in the first three posts of that thread. For what it is worth PE and PE6 both have interesting histories and PE is one of the few cubes people tend to agree is more potent than average.

One of these days I need to actually grow PE. I've been reading the hype for a few years now, might be time to see for myself soon.

Newbie warning lol

I'm about to order the 4 packs of spores syringes

My list was
1)B+
2)Penis Envy
3)Golden Teacher
4)Ecuador

I'm going for the highest dosage yield per harvest along with faster colonizing/fruiting times.

Any changes to that list you would make?

Also, I'm wondering if it would be ok to store the extra syringes at room temperature for extended amounts of time(2-4 months).

Any other recommendations you would give me?
