I believe that the dwarf Z strain is the most unique cubensis I have ever seen in person.
dwarf size, tendancy to fruit invitro, tendancy to form psuedoscelera, and occasional strange caps.

He was, he was talking about the DWARF Z's that dmonkey introduced, he gave them out in a contest.

If you want to learn more about them, contact dmonkey. He had one thread on it in mush cult but it didn't go into too much detail.

Id like to know if larry is talking about this or what. I dont think this one grow would constitute a new "strain"
Thanks for the link tho bro. I love obscure hard to get strains of cubes. Still on the quest for all of keeper's cubes

Well, what about propagation where spore prints > cultivation > fruiting leads to similar phenotypes (shape, habit, characteristics, you know). Isn't that what generally "strain" refers to?
Let me give one example - I cultivated some Wild Texans off a print from Jokefox last year, strong myc that fruits readily invitro, made these strange blobs in the jar after only a couple weeks, and then when spawned produced a lot of potent mutants (many pics here), before settling down to normal production. RR thought maybe a virus. See a healthy flush in my sig.
OK, so I printed healthy caps from a couple of flushes and gave a ton of them away (still am, BTW ) That's where Captain Ahab comes in - sent me these cult pics:
Quote:
check out these Wild Texans, thanks to you!

They had an awesome orangeish coloring, with some cool looking mutants, too. Wild, indeed!
Curious replication of phenotype if you ask me...
So, if a virus could it infect spores and transmit itself unto the next generation? And if so, what would that say about certain "strains"? There's a blurb on workman's site about "curing" a possible PE viral infection with a heat regime. But notes no evidence that there actually was a virus. How would you determine this save with electron microscopy (a bit beyond my resources currently)?
So, more to the interesting side of current work, I have some prints from Bloodworm taken from wild cubes in Florida a couple weeks ago. And I have clean germination off the one from this beautiful momma:

Ready to start some isolation trials on a brand new and hey, ya never know. Should be fun!
Thoughts always welcome,

It is not at all unusual to get a blob flush from many different cube strains; you see it more when the spawn ratio is very high, or in your case when you case straight grain. So the virus theory is pretty far-fetched to begin with.

The mutants and blobs occurred on bulk tubs spawned 1:4 or 1:5, but as you note they may be common for I've seen blob formation on a couple different cube strains so far (these and KSSS). But the main thrust of the comments in the thread were the mutants, not the blobs, and I believe that was what RR was referring to and what I'm pointing out as a retained characteristic.
I would note that this appears to be a modern attribute, I never saw that kind of growth occurring back in the day, although heat shock would lead to "dwarfism" in strains I grew.
"Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem" - attributed to William of Ockham
An older but somewhat senescent version of this strain has gone direct to normal fruits on grain...

I said DWARF Z, which is what it was labeled as.
It came from a contest in the marketplace. It seems to act in a predictable manner in its oddities. A number of other people have prints from this as well, perhaps they can verify.
