I too can vouch for psilocybin/baeocystin occasioning Mesoamerican heiroglyphesque visuals. Psilocybe caerulescens always gave me the most Aztechy trips. Maybe because I knew they were used extensively by the natives of that area (Maria Sabina anyone??). I think different tryptamines/alkaloids have distinct "signatures," which have inspired artistic motifs all over the globe. On LSD and LSA I always see paisley type patterns and swirling "loops" that remind me of exactly how the Ipomoea vines grow. Maybe the alkaloids present are a "code" or language that helps the plant distinguish and interpret sensory information. All morning glory vines somehow know based on light and shadows how to find another plant, or something, to climb up. They always wind in the same direction also. Maybe alkaloids like psilocybin help the mushrooms in some similar way? Just a theory but I've thought about this a lot.

this is awesome that there are people that have had similar experiences. did any of you have a feeling like it was trying to tell you something or you had something important to do, but you cant understand it because the glyphs have not aligned properly and that was the only way to understand it all?

Well put, this is some amazing food for thought. Thank you.

The only way to truly figure it out would be giving doses to people from like rural Asia that haven't been exposed to the culture of psychedelics. We all think of certain things because we expect/know the background.
But if rural chinese farmers see jaguars when on ayahuasca, that would be quite something.

i agree that it might have something to do with cultural influence...and I definately felt as if the arrangement of patterns were very much attempting to tell me something. I have a theory however. Is it possible that Aztec artwork is merely based on hallucinations and not the other way around? Maybe everyone experiencing around the same caliber and style of patterns is not so far-fetched. Aztecs culture was well known for having deep roots in natural hallucinogens. Their artwork might verywell be nothing more than documentation of experiences felt by the artist...just a thought.
...on a side note, google Xochipilli.

This is absolutely possible, and I lean towards this being the case.

That's pretty much what I think too. They were really into them and the hallucinations were what they carved and drew as a result. I get extremely strong and vivid Mayan imagery on my bathroom walls when I trip hard, PE seems to be really good for that.
I also think that if you DID mushrooms in the surroundings they created, with the vivid imagery already there, you might experience an intensification as well. And I suspect that this might have been part of the reason for decorating holy spaces that way, to enhance the trips even further. One could try this at home to a certain degree.

that makes sense... the more complex the external stimulus the more there is to trip on. think of what would happen in a purgatory type room with nothing. closed eye hallucinations might be the only thing to affect you as there is no color shape ect.
at any rate...it sure is pretty

It makes me think it'd be worthwhile printing out some Mayan hieroglyphics and having them in the room to see what happens to them.
Uhm, strain thread, hmm, maybe try this with, I dunno, different STRAINS?

It's been discussed countless times in the Psychedelic Experience thread, and we talk about things of this sort in the Mushroom Hunting & Identification forum. We're all cool over there in those threads... Pop over sometime!

I suppose links between mesoamerican art/architecture and effects of hallucinogens, and vice versa.
