Then how do you explain the Tasmanians? I'm in Australia and fairly sure there havent been any cubes located in Tassie? No hunters I've heard of have ever seen one.
tasmanian is just a name man, could have been a dude from there who found it in florida and there would be nothing wrong with that
I'd have a problem with that principle (just the principle and the marketing). So we know absolutely nothing and what's worse, the vendors, even trusted ones, are propagating lies, instead of saying "cubeA" and "cubeB" and just being honest? Shit like we'd stop using them. But if you've ever been around the Research scene, even RC sites that are considered sketchy as fuck by this site send out MSDS and NMR analysis with their products (and they are accurate and don't over exaggerate, they will write 98.5% or even just >95 if they're unsure. These are rogue labs from china. And these vendors of legal products can't provide proper information on the strains they're selling. This too, is done in the open with the "not for human consumption" stuff as analogous to "only for miscropic". I would totally be more likely to be from the honest site that said this is "IDK strain, generation 3, we got it in 93 from ____ here are some characteristics"

If you're really looking for "less domesticated" why not take a stab at growing actual wild cubes? Just like a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get. Purple Mystic (Floridian from Plant City) has been through a few hands only and the fruits are really satisfying in terms of the trip - check out the monster thread about it and look in the marketplace for new prints.
Here's a couple pics to entice you from what I grew out, first generation:
PS
Thanks, that's really exciting actually I've kinda been interested in wild cubes but just never got the chance to do any trades yet. I have 3 of my own prints actually, which are not wild, but I can actually probably get semi wild cube prints from my friends yard after it rains sometimes, it just hasn't worked out so far and he's been having some personal issues and I haven't wanted to bother him

CoreHore:

This is just a glance, nor am I that experienced at hunting, but I did help post the pic for you and I'll tell you what it *looks* like to me..
Cube on the very top left?
The quality of the pic makes it hard to tell but those look to be *shaped* like P. Cyanescens? If so, awesome! Do some prints!
Can't tell from this really, though, but it looks like there's a chance those are Cyans to my untrained eye... See what color spore print you get

Top left does kinda look like a cube but so does hundreds of other mushrooms.
And the others dont looks active, the sterm and cap colour seems off to me but the shape is there. It is a very very common shape though so you dont have much to go off.

there's a whole identification subforum here. None of those look active to me. I wouldn't fuck with any of them until you get them verified by someone trusted.

Hey, quick Q - is there a noticeable difference in colonization speed or yeild between strains and their albino counterparts? I know that technically speaking albinism is a genetic defect, do albino strains tend to have other genetic issues in terms of colonization speed, yeild, potency, etc? Or do they pretty much only differ in color?

^usually albinos aren't as prolific but just look at PastyWhyte's sig, the first two pics. That's a flush of albinos and it's pretty damn good.
They are mostly grown for novelty and because they tend to be quite potent. That's the main "thing". Potency. Albino PE especially is at least known for potency

Not going to disagree with albinos being tricky but the tub in my sig is actually a cross between AA+ and Colombian rust spore.

No a cross as in spores from each variety mated and created a cross. The dykarotic myc is a mix of both. Still working on it. Maybe in a year I will have a stable hybrid to give prints out with

not a cross, the dominant substrain took over and colonized then fruited, the other substrain lost out and was most likely consumed.
seems the AA+ won out seeing as they are albino

But they are not lucistic, just pale. The previous F1 gen almost looked like normal cubes with a black (not purple) spore print. Other F2 grows were all over the map and some were most definitely not lucy. These also have a fruit body closer to the CRS with really dense stipes and lacking the bells shaped or nippled cap so common with AA+. The F3 gen should tell me more when I get around to it. There are a few pics in the link in my sig that show the F1 gen.
