Making agar is easier then making jello. Especially if you check out some Pasty plates How do you know what you're squirting into your jar is contamination free? You don't....
Was kinda kidding. But I haven't tried agar yet. Because I haven't needed to, but I'll get into it I'm sure
Seems cool to be able to control results (genetically) to an extent.

For me the biggest benefit of agar is being abled to see contams and clean up dirty cultures. I got a contaminated PE syringe from a sponsor e couple of months ago and was able to get a clean culture from it using agar. Without Agar I would not have been abled to get a grow from that syringe.

I just found a wild reishi while taking a walk. I wouldn't be able to clone it without agar. need to buy a supporter account so I can upload a picture but the store is broken

Good luck. Be sure to save some spores in case you fuck up. First timers often do. Be patient.

I am only starting with 3 half gallon jars. 3 cc's in each. With a total of 4 syringes on the side so I'll have plenty left in case that happens. But I'm reading into it a lot, taking notes, an will be VERY patient!

Start with small jars, if contamination occurs, you can toss one out and still have a ton of others.

It's your first time (correct me if I'm wrong) and you're doing half gallon jars? Of what? That's also a lot of strains. Pick which one you find the most interesting and try to work with just that one and the rest for backup if anything ( I would usually get 2 of each type just in case the first one gets messed up or whatever, so at least you're not shooting completely different spores into it, even though it's still MS). But usually people start with half pints of BRF/verm. Are you just jumping into grain? There's nothing wrong with that if you know the drill. The main reason I think doing some PF Is useful, cause you get used to the main elements. Inoculation being the most important I think. There's nothing wrong with doing grain from the get-go but your succes will prolly be higher starting from the beginning. Plus PF grows can be awesome. My first PF cakes, putting them together, all first flushes for example, could def have rivaled an amazing coir/verm/gyp mono flush. And the most potent fruit I ever had happened to be from PF cakes.
That said, I'm not into crumbling them and mixing with CVG. Only because they're already cakes and will flush nicely, if you wanna spawn use grain, it'll be much better. I never understood this except if someone really doesn't wanna learn to work with grain for some reason (?) I actually think rye is way easier to de

Starting with grains to bulk is easy. It's what I did. But I would use quart jars if I were you. Using huge jars that take forever to colonise and have a tendency to get bacterial is a bad idea in my opinion.

RR has a method to work with jars that size. you should look up the problems with half gal jars before you set sail.

I have used half gallon jars before, that being said I would not use spores to inoculate, either lots of wedges, clean LC, or G2G work best. G2G is my preffered method to use those but the height of the jar makes it difficult to G2G unless you got a really tall SAB.
Lids for those jars also should have an extra GE hole as they are horrible for stalling out, and I also shake them twice to help disperse the grains.
Having used them successfully and unsuccessfully, I would caution anyone who has not used grains before to avoid them until they have some more experience. Having a friend who has used them a dozen times would not qualify that person as being experienced with them IMO.
