I just realized that this sarcasm would be funny if weren't actually THE NEARLY-EXCLUSIVE source of confusion among all first-year cubsensis growers.

I've never bothered to look at this thread because I figured I knew what it would say. And I was right.
Anyway...
Have y'all already discussed KSSS and short fattiness? Is there a solution?

i've found a couple days consolidation on bulk and a casing layer help alot with it,blinding leaf put up some pics of his ksss i told him to case and consolidate and he got zero stubby's, it was just something i noticed a couple years ago or so when i gave my brother a sub to fruit and he cased it and i didn't, mine were typical ksss results his were fantastic looking cubes

I think I'll try that if I ever get around to ordering more KSSS spores.
You think casing at 100% and letting the casing get close to 100%?
Or, consolidating a week and then casing, then fruit at close to 100%?

croons advice did me well on that, benefits from consolidation for me, and casing
this is UNconsolidated, but cased with coir (i don't use coir as casing anymore, but back then i did)

consolidated i think maybe 9-10 days after 100%, cased with peat (what i always use now)

it was MS, both buckets, from same plate (5 transfers from spore, so limited genetics) so results vary. same bucket design, same GH conditions tho. so take it however u want. if anything, since that grow comparison, i just found longer consolidation/spawn run helps reduce mutants/crazy looking ones

depends where u get ur prints from too IMO. i was on the lookout for KSSS grows with crazy looking mutant tubs when i wanted to try that variety, i did not get mine from vendor, but from another poster in a trade. cron and pasty have pretty normal cube looking KSSS grows, so it depends where ur prints coming from too sometimes BL prepares for flaming

Uncle Rico showed me this post by FrankHorrigan which is basically about casings in this regard.
Why the hell would casings have this effect? I've been thinking about it for days but I can't wrap my mind around it. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Understood, but why would that cause PE and KSSS to produce less blobs/mutants/etc?
Maybe due to the delayed fruiting, the mycelium has more time to digest the nutrients. I've heard quite a few times that PE puts out more mutants on a highly nutritious substrate.

I've cased consistently, except when I haven't and my results are better both with casings and with extended consolidation. It's like once the myc gets impatient with the consolidation, when you put it into fruiting it skips all the farting-about stage of throwing up freaky mutants and gets right down to business properly. OTOTH what you're seeing might be do to some contam that doesn't get a chance thanks to the casing. I can say though that the last PE I grew went straight to giant fruits (that's them in my old sig pic). Am doing some more now so I'll see what happens this time.

I did notice my 2nd flushes with KSSS were more normal, still fat but bigger and closer to normal. So, the consolidation makes sense.
I'll have to try casing, I never have. Will any old store bought peat do?

EXACTLY! pe and ksss will put normal fruits out after the first flush, think shitake, most commercial strains need like a full month consolidation or they blob out

This is a cambodian monotub I did. Check it out. With MS though, results vary.
