I have used many different grains and my yields where the highest when using WBS or a similar mix of grains. However ease of use and price have caused me to switch to oats.

I think out of all the strains I grew out I liked Costa Rica the least. Out of 4 attempts with this variety i got nothing but small fruits with low potency

Yes genetics play a roll in yield and potency. But finding this isn't necessarily going to come from spores as much as it is isolating strains on agar. Spores carry on some genetic traits but yield / potency can vary greatly from flush to flush and also fruit to fruit when growing from spores.
I harvested then tested my first flush it was about 3 g's and the effects were less than normal...are there any ways to protect pysilocibin?

Dry them as quickly as possible. Dehydrator FTW.
Otherwise start agar and clone or isolate and test. Keep the ones that prove to be fast, potent with good yield.

I dont really know the meaning of agar...kind of a noob.....but i know a little about isolating a mycelium strain. Is that what you mean?

Yes. We use agar to clone and isolate, as well as to store the genetics long term.

Any oat prep tek/links? I almost switched to oats this last time around, $17+tax for a 50lb bag. Not a big fan of wbs, with the whole sunflower seeds. I've been using rgs, and that's what I got this last time cause it's been working for me and I didn't want to fix what won't broke. Maybe next time I'll give the oats a go.

u prep oats like rye. some do not even soak it, just a simmer till they are plump, they are less prone to bursting than rye.

Hell sounds easy enough, next time I need grain, I'll give the oats a run.

I know the sunflower seeds dont make a difference (because the few times I've used wbs, I was to lazy to bother taking them out lol) but I just prefer the consistency of a single grain as opposed to mixed grain. I'm a little ocd some times.

People need to respect the SGFC for bulk a bit more. Seriously, I compared results from SGFC and Mono and I love the idea of all sides fruiting.
This is "A strain", 5 "cakes" consisting of rye as main sub with loads of gypsum, mixed into CVG. I'm surprised people aren't jumping on coir cakes as much, seems pretty noob friendly. I find them easier to make than PF cakes and a hell of a lot more rewarding, with the same basic process. experimented with a mono with a big coir brick, was really nice, but I think it turns out better divided into several cakes, dunked exactly like PF but only 8 hours (SGFC dries those babies out a good deal faster).

this pic was taken outside the US. Just a disclaimer. Maybe it's psilly.
