Ive got this new strain, Ban Hua Thanon, or BHT. Ive only just started with it, but it has great mycellium growth, its the second day and it has already germinated, will update later on with pinning and fruiting.

I am new to the shroomery, and have a few simple questions regarding a new grow operation. For a person that is completely new to cultvating mushrooms, what in your opinion is the easiest and fastest strain to grow? I have looked at a few strains myself, but i figure the people here have a more valid opinion. The strains i am considering are; Cambodian, B+, or Amazon. I am not set in stone on getting any of these. Thanks in advance

Any Cube or Oyster strain is fine to start with.

Is about an ignorant of a statment as was ever spoken.  That it would even be repeated at the same place where you can see dozens of pics of wildly different strains really amazes me.

and all asians are smart.

and all wetbacks are lazy.

and brazilian cubes are the most potent.

and the star gazer cubes make you see stars.

and the KSSS cubes are the best strain of cubes.

i hope you see the point im trying to make.

> i hope you see the point im trying to make.

Not at all.  If your analogy is what it seems then I think you're missing the point.

Saying "a cube is a cube" is just obviously wrong on it's face.  I assume it started to shut down all the noobs that agonize over what strain to try first or ask what special conditions each strain needs.  But ever since it's just been a stupid saying that the genetically ignorant parrot constantly, usually when it doesn't even make any sense.

Everything in biology is gene by environment interaction.  Since there's only two factors here ignoring one is ignoring half the equation.

There are plenty of obvious and defining differences between strains.  Take PE and albino as obvious examples.  Is is not obvious to you that PE and albino are different because of their different genetics?

This "a cube is a cube" nonsense seems to stem from basic genetic ignorance.  People seem to mistakenly think that either all the strains are genetically the same (which is obviously false), or that somehow the genetics get magically reset with every generation, precluding any variation.

Both of these misconceptions are completely wrong.  The fact is that the biology of mushrooms makes all the strains highly inbred and crosses very rare.  They've also been cultivated under controlled conditions for thousands of generations.  So there's little variability, and what little there is has no effect on cultivation parameters.

very obvious.

what is also obvious (to me anyways)

is that if you take a spore print from an albino, the resulting fruits might not be albino.

soooo spores are random, therefore a cube is a cube

if we were allowed to trade genetic isolates, then i could guarantee you an albino fruit, or a PE fruit.

but at this point in time, expecting the results of spores to perform exactly like their parent is absurd and misinformed.

albinos wont always breed albinos

PE wont always breed PE

brazil wont always breed brazil.

so why even name the spores?

I think the notion more points to the idea that you can get a weak offspring, or a potent one from any variety of cube. Its all about your isolation process.

The point has been made many times.

Still, a cube is a cube. They aren't pans or truffles.

Are there differences between strains? Of course there are but the only ones that have been proven are the differences we can see with our eyes.

Differences in potency are likely, but they have not been scientifically proven.
