Do you mean veil not hood? potency will not change because of this spores contain no psilocybin.

Has nothing to do w/ the spores Mega and yes they are more potent before the veil breaks which has to do w/ the maturity of the fruit... not the spores.

I am still working on an updated strain guide. Hopefully it will be done in a few weeks.
Strain discussion is getting a bit boring for me after spending the better part of the last three years answering "What is the best/fastest/most potent cube?" over and over again. Perhaps that is why my update is taking so long to complete.
It has been interesting researching the mysteries of cube strains... but the answers are rarely exciting. A cube is a cube is the conclusion I have come to. Kinda' anticlimactic... I know... but almost entirely true.

Cervantes, I'll try to avoid asking you to type out 3 years of work, but I do have one question for you based on your above post. Based on your research, would your recommendation to any new grower be find a reliable source, buy the cheapest print/syringe and never look back? Or is there any clout to small differences in characteristics like speed vs output etc? Talking strictly cubes here of course.

I am fond of the mutants... they look cool and are instantly identifiable. They are often very potent... but that boost in perceived potency may be just a placebo because they look cool.
The problem with mutants is they often yield poor flushes so the greedier magical mycologists may wish to avoid them. Bulk means little to me.
Of the mutants, Penis Envy seems to produce the best yields. It is also notorious for it's potency (placebo or not). So Penis Envy is by far in the way my favorite cube. It also has one of the most interesting histories of any cube. Not a fast grower, but mycologists are patient folks.

PE is a very popular cube, but also has it's "infamous" sterility or poor spore production which might make it tough on a newbie trying to get going. I have never had the pleasure of growing it myself (please someone send me a print, kidding), so please take my comments with a grain of I have no idea what I am talking about :-). I noticed you said:

I don't want to ask too much, but does that mean you agree that some "strains/races" tend to be faster than others or am I reading too much into your statements? :-)

PE is slower to colonize and to pin
A cube is a cube except for PE

The difference between commercial 'Strains' is clouded in uncertainty.
Have a look at the first post in the thread I link to at the end of this post. In it I explain to the best of my abilities, what I have come to learn about cube 'Strains' and why I put that word in quotation marks.
If you want a fast growing, high yielding, extra-potent cube, you will need patience, countless trial grows that do not live up to your expectations, a near perfect growing environment and, a lot of agar and petri dishes. The 'Strain' has little to do with your results.

This is an amazing piece of work. Im looking forward to seeing your updates
I think it all comes down to any cube can be any way that you want (potency, yield, speed etc.) thru agar work, patience and lots of trial and error.

I am possibly the only TC here who has never isolated. I have only grown for personal use so bulk is not that important. I like the unexpected surprises and disappointments that come from MS.

Wow I love the diversity of MS grows I get awesome results all the time with MS so I never bothered with iso's. The reason I isolated was for PE and APE cause my spores came from swabs. I shouldnt have bothered isolating them I should have just transfered to dishes and grew them from the dishes. My APE iso was so
When are you releasing APE 2.0?

Me too. A perfect APE would likely become my favorite. I haven't checked in on workman's efforts for about a year. What I have seen looks promising but again, agar work and isolation take long enough when you aren't looking for an albino penis. I think workman's goal is to reduce the aborts and increase the likelihood of MS albinism. That is a tall order.
