Romney?
    #14525303 - 05/28/11 07:54 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/romney-tests-waters-in-iowa/2011/05/27/AGiZfoCH_story.html

Does anyone here think that Romney might be a great choice for President, even over Obama?
One line of logic would be that, as the economy is in trouble and a strong private sector is an obvious remedy, electing an individual who would be extremely pro-business would be a wise choice. One also has to wonder how corrupt such a prominent leader of Mormonism would be. :strokebeard:

From the article, part of his stump speech in Iowa:

Quote:

“With the economy going down, with tumult in the world, we picked a fine time to pick as our president someone with no experience in the private sector, no experience in the economy, no experience in negotiations, no real experience in leadership,” Romney said. “You see, to create jobs, it helps to have actually had a job.”

Romney added that businesses are hurting because of “uncertainty” that the Obama administration has created about government regulations and taxes. “I spent my life in the private sector,” Romney said. “I know that business and entrepreneurs and innovators and employers can handle bad news. They have to, because it happens now and then. What we have a hard time handling is uncertainty.”

And Romney said the government was borrowing too much money, “year after year after year,” with no capacity to pay it back. “In business, you’ll go out of business. You’ll go bankrupt,” he said. “But in government, you can sort of kick the can down the road for a long, long time. Ultimately, however, the piper has to be paid.”

I'm voting for Ron Paul... Since he's actually for bringing back The Constitution and Freedom in America. And he's in favor of legalizing marijuana.  :bigjoint:

Ron Paul is great and has great ideaology from what I have seen, but he's not well-suited to be in an executive-type position.

That's exactly why he IS suited.

Besides, what exactly is so "unsuitable" bout him?

So someone who is applying to be a dog catcher, but isn't really well-suited for chasing and apprehending wild dogs, actually is suited for the position. :strokebeard:

I see no reason to think he's capable of running such an administration. It requires various skills and aptitudes which I don't believe he demonstrates. This is reflected in how his campaigns run.

Ron Paul is smarter than that. If he couldn't do it, he wouldn't run.

But sure go ahead....vote for another candidate representing the status quo. SAME OLD SHIT

I cant believe a fucking site like the shroomery doesn't have more ron paul supporters.

Because we all know that just because a group of people frequent the same web site, that they should all be lemmings.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

Ron Paul doesn't think he will win. He didn't think he would last time; he said as much. His objective is to sell the platform of ideas that he runs on.

A certain amount of maintaining the status quo is pretty essential, actually. If it wasn't, then things would change more dramatically all the time. That's how things function. But look how much Ron Paul's campaign last time effectively created the tea party movement that there is now. It's why almost every Republican in Congress voted for Paul Ryan's budget. The population at large doesn't accept it, but they are pretty damn scared of their party base.
Hold them by the fucking balls man, that's how things change, not by one guy getting elected President.

I think there's actually a lot. I'm one, for example.

Funny how no one ever questions Harry Reids Mormonism.
Yes....Harry Reid is a Mormon.

Take it from one who knows well...a Mormon is no more or less corrupt then any other person.  I don't give a fuck if you're Mormon, Catholic, Baptist, Pentacostal, Muslim, Buddhist, Wiccan, Satanic, Agnostic, Atheist or anything else you can think of; a persons 'faith' has little to do with their ability to be a corrupt asshole when they become a politician.

Actually I was insinuating that he definitely must be, in his own way, considering what we know about the sterotypical, ultra social-consertive who is so repressed that they're usually really hypocritical.

I'm not saying that he actually is stereotypical in that sense, mind you, but it's a funny concept nonetheless.
