Perlite
    #1452236 - 04/12/03 01:21 PM (15 years, 13 days ago)

I'm not sure on how to exactly use the perlite. The FAQs and guides didn't really get into it all that much. How do I set up the perlite in my terrarium? Does the water and the perlite on the bottom come into contact with the cakes? Or do I set the cakes above the water and the perlite releases the water in the air?

I think people suggest like an inch of perlite and 0.5 inch of water. You can set it directly on to of it (you may get fat-asses) or set your cakes on the lids of your jars.

It is used to raise the humidity of the terrarium.

Be careful when using it, its dust is bad for the lungs.

If i set the perlite directly against the cakes will the water get absorbed through the cakes? Would that produce too much humidity? I guess what I'm asking is whats the differences between setting the cakes on the lids than directly in the perlite....

Yes, some moisture would be absorbed from the perlite. Thats where those fat-asses come from.

I think perlite is pretty good for keeping a good rh. you don't really have to worry about too much rh.
