psilocybe cubensis in southern Appalachia
    #14520261 - 05/27/11 11:07 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I would like to do a hunt to obtain some wild cubensis spores in Mid to Southern Appalachia. I know that they can be found in this latitude because they have been found in Tennessee and Colorado. There are so many cows out here there must be a cube somewhere. What month would provide the best chance for finding them?

Still if you had to pick a month that would provide the best chance of finding them what would it be? Late july? early august?

Well if they can't be found in those regions in any month, then obviously there is no best month to look.

From what I have read they are found in Tennessee because in a cattle pasture in Oak Ridge, TN. I am not saying that strain originated from there for certain.I am just saying there is a chance that it could have. So I would like to know the time of year with the highest chance of finding them. Appalachia has an abundance of Cows and moister in my area.I live at roughly the same latitude as oak ridge. So there is a chance I could find them.

Well,I live in Kentucky, minutes from the Tennessee border, and my weather is almost Identical to Oak Ridge Tennessee's,and Cubes do not grow in my whole state.I've only heard of Cubes being found in the Memphis, and Oakridge areas, and not any further north than that.Extreme southern Tennessean on down would be the best bet,and now would be the best time to look :-)

:huxleyfacepalm:

I doubt Cubes have ever been found in Tennessee but you're definitely not going to find them in North Carolina. There is a wealth of information in the threads at the top of the page. Please read.

I don't know, I mean we have alot of people from Arkansas finding cubes and I assume the climates are relatively similar. I even heard of people in West Virginia finding cubes, although I'm not sure if they were BSing.

Mid north carolina in the mountains!

good luck man.
i'm always rooting for the underdog.
don't give up.
it'd be wicked cool to see a nice cube find in NC!

your best bet weather wise would be when NC is at it's hottest and most humid with rain to boot (obviously).
im not too familiar with NC weather but from the averages i would say that late june though early august would be your best bet.

Monthly Averages for Charlotte, NC

good luck.
