gills: chocolate brown

stem: white about a half inch wide

bruising: none noticed

spore color: in process

location: northern michigan

Agaricus species, probably a brown variant of agaricus bisporus (common button mushroom). Looks tasty!

excellent! going to have a mushroom burger tonight! i thought it was one of the agaricus species but im rather new to hunting and identifying.

Be sure to check the odor. Agaricus includes some poisonous species, and the odor is the easy way to tell them apart. If they smell metallic, like phenol, like library paste, or have a "chemical" smell, don't eat them. If they have a pleasant smell, they should be OK. The smell is often strongest at the base of the stem. Try crushing the base of a stem and smelling it.

Be sure to also check the smell while cooking them. If the smell during cooking is any of the smells I described above (in the bad category), then toss 'em. If they still smell good, then you're in luck.
