Amendment keeps salvia ban alive in Texas May 26, 2011 - star-telegram.com
AUSTIN -- A bill outlawing Salvia divinorum, a decorative plant that is also a hallucinogen known as Diviner's Sage, passed the Texas House on Wednesday despite a Tea Party Republican's effort to kill it.
The measure would place salvia under Penalty Group 3 along with peyote, codeine and steroids, punishable as a state jail felony. It grows wild in Texas, and some gardening groups have opposed the bill, citing sales of salvia for ornamental rather than psychedelic purposes.
Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview, said on the House floor that he would speak on the measure for 10 minutes, a move that knocked it off the list of bills without opposition. That appeared to kill the bill, since there wasn't time to reintroduce it before the legislative session ends Monday.
However, the bill's sponsor, Rep. Charles "Doc" Anderson, R-Waco, revived it hours later by attaching a modified version to separate legislation on controlled substances.
His amendment passed 142-2, with Simpson one of those opposed. The full controlled-substance bill as amended then passed the House and now heads back to the Texas Senate.
Simpson, a Tea Party freshman, has developed a reputation for killing bills that he thinks interfere with personal liberty.

the goverment shouldnt have the right to decide what you put in your body nor should they be so hypocritical about it
if you interfered in such a way then that would be illegal, being in a state of mind shouldnt be illegal

Really? I thought it was obvious. Pro liberty. Ron Paul is pro medical cannabis aswell as heroin (Im not sure about the details around heroin though... (obviously more strict control than for cannabis).
Ron Paul all the way ... Its where it all starts.
