May 16, 2011 RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas - Agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station had a busy weekend seizing not only marijuana but an Amazon Parrot as well.
The agents found the bird Friday evening when they were working near the Rio Grande and saw several people walking north from the river. When the agents identified themselves, the group scattered and fled into the thick brush. Agents apprehended several people and encountered an abandoned black trash bag. Further inspection of the abandoned bag revealed a bird hidden in a beer box.
The bird was taken to the Roma Port of Entry and turned over to Customs and Border Protection's Office of Field Operations. The parrot has an estimated value of more than $200.
Later that evening, agents were patrolling near Escoabres, Texas when they observed several people loading a white truck with bundles of narcotics onto the bed. As agents approached, the people ran into the nearby brush. Inside the truck was close to 1,300 pounds of marijuana left behind, with an estimated value of more than $1 million. The drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
Additional seizures in the Rio Grande City Station pushed the total confiscated to close to 3,000 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of nearly $2.4 million for the weekend.

A man told me once that he used to have a parrot that would separate all his weed for him. It would take the stems and seeds and bud and put them in separate piles, and when he finished eat the seeds.

Never thought I'd be jealous of a bird. I would love to be by that much pot at once. I would make a horrible smuggler. Id smuggle that shit straight into an inflatable pool get naked and swim in it.

If I had that parrot I would aim to pick up the most seeded weed for it :P

Wow - an article where they actual give a real value. Normally it's a guy with 40 clones in his trailer that they estimate at 2.4 million.
Good to see border patrol doing it's job - seizures like these help keep the price point where it needs to be for domestic production :P

Just saying it's hard to make money growing indoors at $800 a pound - and when you got a grow op in your house, it isn't like you want to be selling by the eighth / oz.
Not saying there can't be high-end and low-end markets, but it's a little disheartening to hear of them having 1,300 pounds when indoor growers are working hard to get 4 every two months, AND have expensive lights, ducting, filters, co2 - have to deal with bugs and mold, give up their basement and having people over.
What do the mexicans do? Put some plants in the dirt and drive them up here when their done. 1000 pounds for as much as a good indoor op costs.
